Right Bitrate for VGA Video (from Digital Camera)

Hi there,
I record videos with my Canon Ixus 80 from time to time. The output files are mjpeg files, so I encode them to wmv or xvid-avis. But the videos are still to large in file size for me. Are there any good settings I can use? Sound is obviously 128kbit enough or could be even 96, but what about the videostream?

For reencoding of videos from my Nikon P6 (640x480x30fps mjpeg in mov) i use XviD with following settings (vfw interface):
1 b-vop
quantizer ratio 1.62
quantizer offset 1
no packed bitstream
Didee's SixofNine custom matrix
no AQ, no Qpel, no GMC
(MTK PAL profile)
2-pass options from top to bottom following numbers: 10, 1, 20, 5, 5, 5, 0, 0
Target bitrate 2000 kbps
Zone options - checked only 'begin with keyframe'
Motion search precision = 6
VHQ = 4
Use VHQ for b-frames
use chroma motion
use turbo
frame drop = 0
max keyframe interval =100
use trellis quantization
quantizers: i-frame = 2..5, p-frame = 2..7, b-frame = 3..9

What is your target size? I always use 2400 bps to get around 4 h of video (audio=mp3 128cbr) on a DVD. If this ist too big for you - lower the bitrate and there You are. Also You can use 2 b-frames instead of 1 and/or raise the max-I-frame interval to 10 * framerate (300 in your example of 30fps). As a tip: 'neatvideo' has a brilliant noise-filter-plugin for VirtualDub.
