Hi,
[ sorry to anyone who read the other post - i hope it gets deleted soon ]
I thought it would be interesting see which methods people out there use to backup their DVDs to Divx. If you use more than one method just "vote" for the one you used the most in recent times.
I don't wanna know which method you think is the best for gaining the highest quality results as much as which method you are actually using to do your backups.
So, erm.... vote away pls.

You forgot DVD2AVI. TMPGEnc is also very useful for IVTC when making DivX.

um, isn't DivX 4 - Virtualdub + VFAPI = DivX 4 - Gordian Knot?

lol, of course it is!

...but it's not actually the encoding part, right ?

I encode with DVD2AVI 1.82 in most cases, because it is fastest.
MPEG2AVI is about same speed, but has not so good interface.
If movie is noisy or must be IVTC-ed then I use AVISynth and VDub.
Nandub is very good, but I started to use exclusively DivX 4.xx codec.
Sometimes I must use TMPGenc because it makes best IVTC, and yes, it can encoding DivX too. Downside is that resize filter is slow.

Was using Divx 4 2-pass but recently started Nandub with Divx 3 and think I'll stick with that. I don't use divx for backing up DVDs though. I use it only for creating divx files from VHS tapes.

I did a poll in the GKnot discussion last week:
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=14707
I asked "Which codec do you use with Gknot?" since Gknot is designed for either DivX3 SBC or DivX4.
There were 27 responses. 10 for DivX3, 14 for DivX4, and 2 for both. One text reply from Teegedeck stating that I'd forgotten to add XviD to my poll.
