I recently made a backup of one of my movies a DVD9 to DVD5 using Ripit4me,dvddecrypter and used DVDrebuilder removing all audio streams except the main a 6 channel AC3 as shown by DVDrebuilder but when i came to play the dvd on my sony standalone player the audio stream set as default had blank audio playback until a change from 1. English to 3.English in my dvd player audio settings returned the audio.
I tried changing the default audio in ifoedit after dvd-rebuilder but a file size error meant i was unable to save
If i backup the original ripped dvd5 video in dvd shrink the completed film plays audio fine
Any Ideas :(

That means that the one you kept wasn't the default track. If you are using the Profession editions, just remap it using Audio Mapping.
Comparison to how Shrink works isn't a good way to demonstrate anything. Shrink works in an entirely different manner than DVD-RB.

Unfortunately i take it the audio mapping feature isn't available in the free version,
the only other tracks were a director's comentary and a german audio
as this dvd was sold in eire retail the english 6 channel ac3 was the only one it could be as no other was detected apart from the above
I understand the difference with DVD-RB and Shrink but was simply stating that running the ripped version through shrink outputted
the dvd correctly

Audio remapping is only available in the Pro edition.

Poor man's audio remapping for users of DVD-RB free:
Use DVDShrink and deselect the audio tracks you do not want. Set compression to "no compression" and set the target to "hard drive folder". Use the output generated by DVDShrink as the source folder for DVD-RB free.
This works with DVDShrink, but not with DVD2one which (like DVD-RB free) does not offer audio remapping.
Cheers
