Nero Digital didn't work

I just used over 4 hours of machine time creating a .mp4 CD using Nero Digital and nothing will play it including Nero Show Time. Anybody else have this experience?

OK, but my logic is that if Nero's player won't play a file produced by Nero Digital than nothing will. I tried WMP, VLC, DivX and another I can't remember the name of, all of which claim to have mpeg4 codecs installed. I don't know what mplayer is. Also, I discovered that the file is write protected and the attribute cannot ne changed. I tried to change the file type to .avi. I figured Nero did something to be sure the file only opens on their player.
