h264 in FFDS

Hello all,

I tryed h264 in FFDS two passes 2nd pass in virtualdub but the filesize keeps getting biger and biger. How can I set a filesize option for this?

btw I tryed to set the filesize in the two passes 2nd pass int option and nothing the file keeps getting biger... :\

If you insist in using VirtualDub, why not using MasterNobody's x264 VfW encoder?

If you can use ffdshow's encoders in VirtualDub, then you can use the x264 VfW builds by MasterNobody as well ;)

And these builds are much more maintained, as the ffdshow guys don't have much love for VfW. Not long ago they almost dropped x264...

2. The developers do not support x264 VFW, and nobody as far as I know supports x264 in FFDShow.

3. It isn't "another codec"--it's the same encoder in a form that is supported.

The only developers that matter are the ones doing actual work on the codec. Not the guys who maintain a little piece of legacy technology that doesn't do anything other than provide a frontend to that hard work.

You can put your video in whatever container you like however I would recommend at least mp4 instead of AVI. Also what is your limitation that you are required to use with x264vfw or FFDshow?

Well I'm a anime Fansubber and I'm trying to put h264 in avi. I know that very few peaple know how to put h264 in avi container, but the quality is realy great. Our group only wants to support .avi files that is why I'm curious to learn it. I tryed with the Xvid codec, but the quality was not great...

WAKE UP THERE! Majority of people use .MKV (matroska format) instead of very old and limited avi. You stuck in the past. Future belongs to h.264 in MKV format. END OF STORY! Besides don't be surprised if this thread will be closed soon.

Even if you want to put x264 in AVI, why not use Avidemux (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=126164) and avoid the problems of VFW ???

And if you still want to use VirtualDub, there is no need to use ffdshow! You can use x264vfw (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=213809&package_id=257567), which has more support ;)

BTW: One can remux H.264 from AVI to MKV at any time easily, so don't worry too much about the container.

And the quality isn't effected by the container at all, that's for sure :p

if he wants to use x264 in ffdshow he should have already realised that he can not get good support for this questions here, as people simply dont use it here

instead let me repeat that the best choice to use x264 atm imho is the commandline encoder (with a gui if you prefer)
