MeGui audio sync issues

Here's my routine for converting dvd to x264:

DVDFab HD Decrypter -> Rip (Full Disc)
MeGui -> D2V Creator
MeGui -> AVS Script Creator (If cropped, select Anamorphic encoding...Resize to mod 16)
MeGui -> Video (X264: Unrestricted 2Pass HQ or X264: Unrestricted 2Pass Anime_Toons HQ)
MeGui -> Audio (Nero AAC: NDAAC -HE -48kbps)
AutoEncode
Container: MP4
No Target Size (use profile settings)

Often the resultant .mp4 file exhibits audio sync problems. It seems a like a 100% certainty when DGIndex makes a "d2v.bad" file. A few recent examples: Wall-E, The Dark Knight, and Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

Is there something flawed in my process? What can I do to avoid this? What can I do after encoding to correct the sync problem?

Hi ya :)

Just use the .bad file instead of the fixed .d2v file (that is, rename the .d2v file to .xxx, rename the .bad file to .d2v) ...

Should solve the audio problem :)

Sometimes you need to chop one or more GOPs from the beginning of the project.

Sometimes I haven't even been able to sync one of the audios, not even chopping the first GOPs. Even though I do so, I still received like +7000ms delay and the "real picture" was already running, so I simply didn't encode that audio. Curiosly enough, it only happened with one of the four audio tracks included in the DVD. Never could solve the problem.

I tried renaming .bad to .d2v with Forgetting Sarah Marshall, but after re-incoding, the sync problem still persists.

I diff'd the two files and I noticed at the top that the d2v has:

Audio offset problem of few seconds:
Does your movie (*.vob) start with a studio logo intro of a few seconds duration?
If so, use DVD Shrink in re-author mode and create a new DVD structure of the movie only, selecting NO COMPRESSION.
Use this newly created DVD as a basis for the x264 enocde.

Tried the rename d2v.bad trick with The Dark Knight...no dice. FYI...it don't know have the fps/field_operation change.

Will try re-authoring with DVD Shrink to remove studio intro.

I tried this on The Dark Knight and it worked! Now I just a need to find a way of discovering the need for a intro-edit before I kick off the encode. It sucks not really being able to use my machine for 2+ hours and at the end finding it was all for nothing. Of course, I really should do these overnight, but i always forget...

Load the first vob into DGIndex. Watch the Titlebar when stepping through the file. You should see something like: [VOB x] [Cell y] in the titlebar. If the studio intro is in [VOB 1] and the movie in [VOB 2] you should do the extra re-authoring step using DVD Shrink.
You may also try to skip the intro directly with DGindex by pressing the [ button at the beginning of [VOB 2] and then create the d2v as usual (File / Save Project).

I loaded the first .99gb vob (vts_01_1.vob) in dgindex and previewed the first few seconds. It went from Vob 1 to Vob 3 in like a second. The studio splash and the actual movie are both in Vob 3. Is it the Vob 1 and 2 that were causing my problems originally? Can I edit them out of the vob directly without processing with dvd shrink?

I would assume that VOB1 abd VOB2 created the problem. You should therfore skip these and start indexing with VOB3.
(DVD Shrink in re-author mode does this automatically for you)
