Hi all,

I am looking for simple instructions to create one (still) menu with the possibility of watching two films.

Before you point me in the direction of the 'professional dvd authoring' tutorial may I say that I have spent countless hours trying to decipher it.

I do appreciate however, that it is my lack of knowledge generally that is causing the problem.

Your help would be much appreciated.

regards.

what exactly don't you understand in my guide? maybe if I know that I can give you some pointers... do you understand how buttons work in DVD menus?

I need help on basics I think. When you have created a project and added video and sound and chapters (which I have figured out from your guide), how do you add your other assets and make them work in tandem?

1. Do you just require 1 title in the vts folder to have a menu and two films?
2. after you have registered your second movie and your bitmap image (captured in player), you have 3 pgc's (in title_1). Is this correct? and what order should they go in, ie register bitmap first so that it is the first pgc???
3. After having registered your bitmap you then 'edit track' and add subpicture overlay as you do with sound. Click on the still and 'view simulation', create buttons and select 'tools-autoroute'.
4. Do you now go in the scenario editor and define navigation? If I create a link from my 'yellow 'buttons' on the right of the menu tab' to the two movies, it asks for what command. Do I select the button that applies to that particular movie (this sounds logical).
5. Now, if i then goto layout editor and try to create movie, i get this error message:

Error Display Mode of Language Not Specified shall have at least one wide and letterbox setting.
Error Validate From DB failed
Error DVD files could not be created

I know I am doing something fundamentally wrong and apologise for my ignorance.

Quick Recap to My Process:

1: Import .m2v into Title_1
2: Edit track and add ac3
3: Drag and drop captured bitmap onto Title_1 (still menu)
4: On bitmap pgc 'edit track'
5: add second bitmap (subpicture overlay) as with ac3 in video
6: click on the still and 'view-simulation'
7: draw buttons and select 'tools-autoroute'
8: In scenario editor create link from 'menu-buttons' to the appropriate movie, and selct corresponding button.
9: Attempt to create movie files.

Many thanks for your help.

it's really been too long since I used Scenarist so I can't help you much.. I compared what you wrote with what I wrote in the guide and it looks to me like you're not properly following my instructions.

first: you add all assets in the track editor (I got the impression you're dragging that stuff in the scenario editor).. each movie and menu will get its own pgc so you having 3 of them is correct. the order of the pgcs does not matter.. you only have to link them the right way (so the first play item should be the pgc containing your main menu if you want that to be shown first)

4)sounds about right but I have no means of verifying that (unless I install scenarist again and create a couple of source files)... but the process is logical, that much I do remember.

somewhere in the project creation you have to set a DAR and language for your project (I would presume when you create it).. apparently you haven't set them... or what's also possible is that you have files with different dar flags in the same title.. that doesn't work if I'm not mistaken.

Hi Doom,

Gone back to the tute and managed to suss out how to create buttons. The problems were the small LWP icons in the subpicture overlay track!

Second problem (menu creation okay now), how do you get round two different audio bitrates? Film 1 = 384, Film 2 = 448.

When trying to build project it errors notifying of that fault. Now, at the beginning of your tute you say to encode all assets the same, I would have thought that meant only aspect ratio's and pal/ntsc?

Could it be possible to get round this as i don't want to start encoding audio as well. DVDMaestro will accept my assets as they are but i would prefer to use scenarist if i can.

Cheers

Much appreciated, thanks. I wait in anticipation :o)

BTW, have you figured out the other stuff yet?

I am not familiar with using Scenarist, but on a technical level, I believe it is possible to use different audio types/bitrates within the same title, so long as you FORCE a new PGC for each different asset type. I read this (although my memory may be a little hazy) on the release document for DVDMaestro version 2.912. It should apply to Scenarist too, since it refers to manipulation of the DVD spec itself.

Any way to sync up AC-3 audio in Scenarist 2.5 with a -83ms delay? I can't seem to find anything on it. Half way through the movie the sound is way ahead of the video.
