Looking for highest qualidty dvd to divx converter

I am looking for a program to create the highest quality divx files from dvd's so I can stream them over to a xbox 360 (wide screen projector in our theater) and to a 42" ws tv which has a linksys dma2100 that I just got. I have tried a few programs that I am still not 100% satisfied with the results (clone dvdmobile, TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress, and Auto GK).

All of my tests have been viewed on the projector.
-Clone dvdmobile output was choppy even at highest settings.
-Auto GK was better and the audio was very quiet.
-TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress was even better but still had some issues on the large screen. I even tried a conversion that ended up at 3.84gb. It could be that this one is the best and any setting configs would help out.

The second 2 programs I think I had to use the display adjustments in the 360 to fill the screen instead of having black around the whole picture (I set the resolution of the rips to the highest possible). I just tired one of the TMPGEnc files on the dma2100 and I have black around the whole picture with no way to fill the screen.

so to sum it all up I need
- ability to full entire screen
- highest possible quality

In the "MPEG-4 Encoder GUIs" sub-forum, there is a sticky (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=129748) listing all popular DVD > DivX, Xvid, and x264 converters. I would suggest in order from newbie to more advanced.
1) AutoGK (It is probably not AutoGK that is producing your display problems)
2) StaxRip (more advanced, but very customizable)
3) MeGUI (most advanced, most customizable)

I'm not adding much here, but not having much time to invest in it, I'm a fan of the results I get with AutoGK....enough options to tweak to make sure the result is what you want...the key is (unfortunately) iterate, iterate, iterate!

I'd say you were almost there; just cleaning up the audio (up the Dbs at least?)

Well I installed AutoGK again (different computer than before) and started many tests really diving into settings, but no matter what the settings are for divx, default or otherwise, it errors on the VirtualDubMod with the error: the source image format is not acceptable. (error code -2)

I dont know if i want to deal with this so I may just move on to MeGUI

this used to happen when you used divx or xvid, and one or the other wasn't supported or installed correctly. try xvid, or reinstall divx(?).. and of course, for maximum quality, you should just play your original dvds..

Well the reinstall of the divx stuff didnt help, but the xvid stuff has been working fine. There was another glitch I ran into, episodic disks. I go in and select the ifo file, it pops up and asks which track, select one, rip, the final result has all of the episodes in 1 file instead of the 1 episode I selected.

The episodic disk problem is well known, and you need to pre-rip the individual episodes to your hard drive with something like DVD Decrypter in IFO mode.

although it is free, to gain all features you will need to buy it,

just remember to go MAX quality, be warned, you will need a powerful rig for this quality,

to be honest though your asking a lot from ASP codecs,

i have tried many programs and i still think FUW is the daddy

I have very good luck with AutoGK. I have played with Virutal Dub for days and not come up with better quality than AutoGK. Plus you have a few parameters to work with in the advanced settings (cntr-F9) to fine tune it.

But, if you want full control of the codec and filters StaxRip is my second choice.
