Hi Everyone,

In a attempt to cut down on the large number of codecs on my WinXP Pro Sp3 computer , I'm trying to set-up FFDShow to be my main codec tool. I currently have FFDShow revision 1723 installed.
I did have a FLAC codec tool I downloaded from a WMP 11 web-site . After uninstalling that tool, I enabled FLAC in FFDShow and then discovered that WMP 11 wouldn't play FLAC files because FFDShow didn't open up. Then after looking over FFDShow, I saw that FFDShow advised me that to , " to play .flac files you also need a source filter" .
I'm not certain what FFDShow means by a "source filter" ?
Could someone advise me on what I need to do in order to configure FFDShow to play FLAC files on WMP 11 ?
Thanks.

Search the forum for "madFLAC". That is a source filter and decoder.

A source filter (aka splitter aka parser) reads the file and sends the contents to a decoder one piece (called a frame) at a time.

I installed madFLAC and it worked file with WMP 11.
FFDShow audio never even came on. Which leads me to another question , are there any times that madFLAC would require the support of FFDShow ? Or would it better to just disable the flac option in FFDShow ?

You don't need ffdshow for FLAC, as madFLAC will take care of everything.
