View Full Version : Noisy output when using AC3 track for encoding

Hello everyone,
I'm very new to this forum and I'm glad to be here:)
Here's my problem.
AutoGK was working great for me for quite sometime, until I realised this problem.
Whenever I choose an AC3 track from the vobs, and choose MP3 as the output, the final AVI file has intermittant annoying noise.
The output is fine if I choose DTS audio track. When I use Gordian Knot for encoding the samefiles, it's working fine (I guess it's using BeSweet for audio)
I think the Lame.exe in AGK, first converts the AC3 into WAV and then into MP3. I tried to open the WAV file even before the complete job is finished just to see, if the WAV file is good. But, the WAV file itself has this annoying noise which makes it obvious the mp3 has the same.
Also I have another problem in my comp which I strongly believe to be a contributor to the ac3 issue.
I get high pitched squeaks and clicks whenever I play wmv & wma files regardless of the player (All other formats ex: Mp3, dat, mpg, mpeg etc are fine). I have updated all my drivers (including bios) and codecs. I even reinstalled my xp, but problem persists.
Any thoughts, please help?
Thanks much.
World Peace
Om.

Is you soundcard set to 44.1khz or 48khz?
Does your softwareplayer recognize this sample rates?
Load the file with Mediainfo or similar tools and post a screenshot.
Or upload a sample somewhere so we can see what's wrong.

Hi Taurus,
Thanks much for your help.
The sound card is set at 48khz.
I don't know how to confirm, if the sample size is recognised by my media players.
I have attached the mediainfo screen shot of a clipping of the encoded audio.
Here is the link for the actual sample of autogk audio output.

Thanks again.

You'll need to upload a sample of the original file where it can be downloaded.

I thought I have pasted the link to the actual sample.

I meant the original audio, not the AutoGK output. All you're showing is the resultant mess which doesn't help determine why it's happening.

Hi,
I was trying to upload a sample of the actual ac3 track with ac3 splitter, but it's giving me the following error " Can not open the AC3 total time! You may not install the AC3 decoder, or the file is corrupt".
Is there another ac3 cutting software you recommend?
In the meantime, I'm posting the media info of the ac3 track.
Thanks
Om.

Use DGIndex, select only a short range of the file and save a .d2v project. It will demux audio into a separate file in the same folder as the .d2v file.

Hi,
I have uploaded samples of both before and after encoding the AC3 file.

Please let me know if this helps.

This is not the file you showed us with MediaInfo.
Please verify

I encoded your sample to mp3 without hickups or distortions
using Lame encoder from Autogk package.

Hi,
I attached a different sample because I was having trouble cutting a sample.
You can take a look at the mediainfo below.
And, regarding the issue, may be I did not make it very clear.
I can encode any AC3 track including the attached samples to MP3 with Gordianknot (BeSweet) without any issues. I have tried encoding the same file (using AutoGK) in a friend's computer and its just fine.
So we may conclude the source files are not the problem.
I want to remind about the WMV WMA issue which I have mentioned earlier, having a correlation to the ac3 issue.
What other information you guys think would be helpful to narrow this down?
Thanks

Hey guys, anyother thoughts?
Thank you.

Hey guys, anyother thoughts?
Not without a sample of the original, problematic audio file.

Hi CWR03,
I have posted the link for the original files already.
Please check my recent posts.
Taurus confirms that he was able to encode the ac3 sample of mine without any problem.
As I mentioned earlier, I can encode the same ac3 track with gordian knot in my computer but not AGK.
I don't think the problem is the with source file. Whats your thoughts? What other information will be helpful?
:thanks:

Sorry, I misread where you said you attached a different sample from the original. Actually I've had no problems with converting or playing it. I've read where someone replaced the version of Lame in AutoGK with a different one and solved an issue, but I don't recall what the original problem was, only that the MP3 output from AutoGK was unusable.

Hi CWR03,
Thanks for the assitance. I'll try go to an old version of Lame.exe and see if that helps.
However, I want to bring this to your notice. The lame version bundled with AGK 2.45 & 2.48b had the same results when trying to encode ac3 tracks. Now I have updated the AGK to the latest 2.50Alpha, where the lame version is the latest, no help from here as well.
By anychance, is it possible to tell agk to use besweet instead of lame?
I somewhat think this is somethign to do with my hardware, let me once again remind about the wmv and wma issue which i have mentioned originally.
I'll keep you posted, thanks again. Happy and healthy new year to everyone:)

Hi friends,
I tried a different version of Lame, but it did not help though.
I'm wondering if it's possible to configure Autogk to use BeSweet instead of Lame.
Is it possible guys? If yes, what should be done?
Thanks again.

Hi friends,

Om.
No, AGK has fixed (and robust) internals parameters to use lame only.
From re-reading the thread it seems the problem(s) is/are on your end. Beware that for many codecs/drivers/programs related problems it is necessary to clean de-install first before updating...
I have no global solution in mind; for workaround use the original ac3 audio file in the AGK temp folder and, like members here have done, convert this AC3 audio using other tools to mp3 and mux back with the final avi after.
I don't know what your level of computing/encoding technicity is.. you can also try to get a working final avi file (video+ac3 audio 2ch 192kbps) and convert the avi with avirecomp just to test the resulting mp3 audio, if good, keep it or demux audio remux with final avi..
And, as always when exposing a problem related to AGK :logfile: :thanks:

Hi BigDid,
Thanks a lot for your assistance.
I'm not really great with encoding, but can work with computers somewhat:)
Could you please explain a little bit on "convert this AC3 audio using other tools to mp3 and mux back with the final avi after"
For Example, let's say I convert the AC3 to MP3 using BeSweet or somether program. This will give me a MP3 file. How do I mux it with the AVI? What should I be doing in AutoGK inorder to experiment this?
Thanks again.

Hi,
Have a look at this (old) guides from doom9:
http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/audio-guides.htm
http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/virtualdub_procedures.htm
For Example, let's say I convert the AC3 to MP3 using BeSweet or somether program. This will give me a MP3 file. How do I mux it with the AVI? What should I be doing in AutoGK inorder to experiment this?
Dig the Virtualdub/Virtualdubmode how-to and procedures..
For the mux thing with VDM, use VirtualDubMod (VDM) that comes with AGK (in Vdubmod folder)
- Open your video only avi file created by AGK (or video+ audio but you will have more steps) in VDM
- In (VDM) streams/stream list/add your audio file (mp3 in this case but could be ac3 also..) and OK
- Check no in the popping dialog box if VBR/ABR mp3 was used
- File/save/as give the new name, use "direct stream copy" in video mode and .. SAVE
You are done
Btw all the audio files are available in the agk_tmp folder (AC3 at least)
