View Full Version : Yet another stupid KMP vs MPC thread

First of all:
I am not the creator/developer of Media Player Classic.

Gabest, the author of Media Player Classic, stopped with the development of his player in May 2006. Since then various patches started floating around here on Doom9 to fix a few bugs in MPC. Those patches included a few security fixes. All these patches have been bundled and a new project called Guliverkli2 was created so that the patched code is easily accessible to the general public. Since then I have also backported a few fixes/updates/improvements from MPC-HC project and made a few tiny tweaks.

Guliverkli2 project page with downloads, source code, etc. (http://sourceforge.net/projects/guliverkli2/)

I am NOT going to fix any bugs.

However, if people submit patches, then I might consider applying them. But unless people contribute, this project is pretty much dead!

I am not a C++ programmer. I have not read the code. I am not familiar with the code of MPC. So don't bother asking me about the code.

If you want to submit a bug report or feature request, then go visit the The Media Player Classic Home Cinema (http://sourceforge.net/projects/mpc-hc/) topic. That project is still in active development.

now Gabest works on PCSX2 plug-ins.
instead, the new MPC is KMP, much better than MPC with active development.

KMP uses stolen code. Go bore other people with your crappy n00b advice.

Development of MPC continues very actively in the MPC-HC project.

no...
they reversed codes, genius.
you guys just patch the lame old video player.
it doesn't make any sense, like patching CoolEdit Pro.
also, MPC is stolen version of Microsoft Windows Media Player.
don't think too much just like that.

If I were you I'd stop now before getting even more egg on your face...

I don't mind about KMP & I know about KMP.
KMP is hack of Winamp, MPC & unknown video editors.

Yeah, that sounds *really* re-assuring. And open. Not.

what ffdshow team did?
RE the original codes of the other commercial products, but for free.
yes, they reversed some part of MPC, Winamp & some basic part of video editors.

and you come troll in here, dude go to the official KMP forums before some mod gets angry at you ;)

MPC classic is only using WMP6.4 GUI, all the code was done by Gabest(a true genius, way ahead of his time)

then Casimir666 & others have decided to add DXVA & D3D modes on top of it, but I can tell you that KMP's HR/VMR presenters were stolen from MPC..or should I say "translated to delphi"

w/o MPC there wouldn't be KMP basically....but KMP is freeware so IMHO it's not such a big of a deal, even though it's not GPL :o

PS : are you saying that Gabest is still coding stuff ?

It doesn't matter, Gabest pasted WMP 6.1 GUI.
KMP team also do the same thing, but so bad.
Read here, what Gabest doing these days:

They say the same thing about, AV CODECs.
But I care about both.☻
I'm in touch with him on that forum.
He is God of Plug-Ins developers.
That's funny, you even don't know what he is doing.

well I see he's working on Gradius V, the only game I like on PS2(Treasure fanboy ^^)...if someone can get it working on PC(I highly doubt it), I guess gabest could make it happen.

it sucks donkey balls that he gave up on HTPC software altogether, though....with all the knowledge he has acquired

What a bunch of crap...

MPC is an open source DirectShow Player. Same Simplistic GUI as WMP 6.4, true, but no reverse-engineering and no stolen code.
MPC-HC is a fork of MPC, possible thanks to the open source nature of MPC. Nothing stolen and a lot of very modern features, nothing antiquated.
FFMPEG (and its derivatives) is an open source project supporting a impressive number of video and audio formats. Some reverse-engineering, true, but no code stolen.

KMP on the other side, is suspected of stealing open source code and is proprietary. Very bad behaviour...

Please learn what open source is, the difference between reverse-engineering and stealing code, before making such dumb affirmations.

Gabest of Media Player Classic claimed that The KMPlayer was violating the GPL by using GPL code in a closed source program, but was refuted that The KMPlayer did not actually include the mentioned GPL code in the executable, and thus was not breaking any GPL rules.[3][4] The KMPlayer later did include a different file that was violating the GPL, though once notified, quickly deleted the GPL breaching parts bundled with the program.[5]

it's utter bullsh*t.
a lot of MPC code was translated to delphi, and several bugs from MPC are also in KMP(god knows how :D)

I've been using KMP for +4 years, I know the product pretty well ;)

MPC randomly freezes on seeks with Reclock, very annoying...and it's been reproduced on several setups..not just mine

and I love KMP's "seamless playback" + its really cool GUI.

but KMP takes 2.5 longer to open than MPC :
http://www.kmplayer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11629

I personally use MPC for music & KMP for videos, fast & efficient player for music & feature-proof for videos ;)

Sina™

I personally use:
Winamp for music.
KMP for video.
Adobe Audition for audio editing.
Adobe Premier Pro for video editing.
KMP is a great directshow host video player just like Winamp & I like it.

yeah sorry.

anyhow, if someone feels like making a fix for MPC so it doesn't freeze randomly while seeking & using Reclock, I'll be happy to betatest
