Substitute for DVDRemake

I'm been using DVDRemake for a while and have gotten accustomed to using alot of the features, but now with my new computer running Vista 64bit it appears that the two don't get along. I've found other forum posts talking about how Remake will eat up all the memory with V64 and it goes super slow. I can't even get Remake to complete an export anymore.

So im looking for a substitue for it, i know about the other programs such as PgcEdit, Vobblanker, etc.. but im not 100% sure what they all do. Basically I'm just looking to remove the extras from discs. With Remake I also liked to run debug mode and edit the commands to skip right to the main menu, but I would be happy to just find another way to do the basic stuff. What combination of programs would get the job done for me? Thanks!

The combination of PgcEdit and VobBlanker should do everything you need to do (plus more!).

If you use PgcEdit then you won't need VobBlanker as PgcEdit will also allow you to selectively either blank out, or completely kill playback, of titles (depending on your choice).

The new version is in advanced beta testing at the moment (beta 89 now!) and adds a considerable number of very substantial improvements but the current version will do all you need in the meantime.

I think there is no need for DVDRemake anymore....I have it, but have not looked at it for ages. It is also tied to your PC and is a pain to get a new one.

PGCEdit does all you need, as does VOB Blanker.

DVDRemake was good in its heyday, but I think it has died given that freeware tools do it all now. Is it even developed anymore?

Thats true, but blanking in VobBlanker still has the advantage of saving disc space. The current version of PcgEdit leaves the bypassed parts in the VOBs.

The current version of PcgEdit leaves the bypassed parts in the VOBs.True, but you can remove the unreferenced cells blanked by PgcEdit easily with FixVTS. It's usually faster, as you don't need to copy the whole DVD, and you can process the VOB files in place.

That's why you select FixVTS from the tools menu when you're ready.

You can do this with VobBlanker as well but I find it quicker with FixVTS.

I've got the newest version of PcgEdit and honestly it's a little intimidating. I'm sure Ill get the hang of it, but is there a guide that would make it easier to understand? Or is the PgcEdit_Manual.chm the best thing for this?

As Blutach says there are plenty of guides available (many of the best of which have been written by him).

Very briefly though and just to get you started.

For viewing and editing commands just select a PGC in the left window and all the relevant commands appear in the right hand window which you can then edit as you choose.

With regard to jumping to menus I'd recommend the slightly more automated and potentially less problematic route detailed here (http://www.digital-digest.com/~blutach/Jump2PGC/Jump2PGC_guide.html).

There are many very useful guides on the PgcEdit homepage (http://download.videohelp.com/r0lZ/pgcedit/#documentation) so have a look there too.

To kill playback of PGCs first preview it and check you've got the right one.

PGCs can be previewed in numerous ways although my own preferred method is to right click a PGC in the left window and select Preview PGC.

Once you've located the correct one, right click again and choose Kill PGC Playback. If you continue PgcEdit will then offer you the option of blanking the cells for later removal with FixVTS.

In general PgcEdit will always try and keep you safe. So have a play with it and when in doubt always follow it's recommendations unless you know for certain you need to do otherwise.
