View Full Version : Overclocking - errors to look for

I have a Q6600 that is mildly overclocked (to 3.2Ghz). Since I got my new processor, I've encoded 4 or 5 discs us HC without any errors and the discs seem ok. I know overclocking and encoding don't go especially well together, but if I keep it overclocked and the program doesn't freeze or anything, is there anything in the log file that would alert me that something isn't right?
Thanks

Look for things like dropped frames and the like. But mildly OC'ed should not be an issue - my CPU is 25% OC'ed and never misses a beat. Do an ORTHOS stress test for 12 hours to be sure.

If you're that worried, perform the same encode multiple times and binary compare the output files to make sure they're identical.

run 4 instances of prime 95 and look for an error to show up. If you can do that for a few hours then you can consider it 100% stable.

Ok thank you guys. Yeah I have thoroughly stress tested my system and it seems good. My overclock is actually a 33% overclock, but many people are able to go much higher with the Q6600. I will look for dropped frames but everything seems ok so far.

If Prime 95 MT is stable for few hours you don't have to worry about anything.
