Dvi+3.5mm -> hdmi

Hello,

Real quick, does anyone know of a simple cable that combines DVI and 3.5mm and outputs HDMI? Like here: http://www.avforums.com/forums/hdmi-cables-switches/876927-dvi-audio-3-5mm-hdmi-possible.html

Except, of course, my monitor/TV does not offer audio input besides HDMI. Just humor me, please :p

I don't think such a thing exists, unless you're talking about S/PDIF over 3.5mm. You'd need an ADC to convert conventional stereo 3.5mm, and some other hardware to sync this with the DVI signal. If such a thing does exist, it's probably very expensive. You're probably better off getting a video card that has HDMI audio support built in :)

The 3.5mm jacks you find on your sound card or motherboard are analog, HDMI is digital.

@Blue_MiSfit: Yeah, I did mean analog 3.5mm. What about S/PDIF, or even optical then? (Googles) More info on this... apparently HDMI is just DVI and S/PDIF. Should've known. Still a rip-off (Does it really cost that much to splice together the two signals? Notice, this is noob talking, I don't know jack yet about the actual underpinnings of such tech), but swallowable. Thanks!

Well, HDMI is a lot more than DVI + S/PDIF :)

But it can carry these signals just fine.

I'd say thats actually a good price. I was thinking something in the $200 range would be expensive ;)

It's not just splicing signals, there's chips in there that are modifying the digital bitstream. I'm surprised it's so cheap, but that's Monoprice for you :D
