When I encode a ripped Blu-Ray movie to whatever container (avi, mkv, mp4) and whatever video codec video stream, I always make 640kbps AC3 audio stream with Eac3To from the master audio track of the disc (DTS-HD/True-HD/lpcm) and the encoded audio sounds different than when play the disc. The difference is very noticeable by the loudness of the speech and sound effects. When playing the disc, the people's voices and the sound effects are equally loud and balanced, but when playing the encoded backup the sound effects are much louder than the people's voices, and if I turn up the volume for loud and clear voices, the sound effects become so loud that I jump out of my seat or the house is shaking. lol

Did anyone else notice this? What could be the source of the problem? Any thoughts for fixing it? Maybe my Sound Blaster's driver over amplifies the sound effects?

I've also noticed a similar issue with regular DVDs and MP3/AC3 sound DVD rips.

Your ripped backups are ok.
You have different adjust (or players) to play original than backups.
Modify your player/s settings.

I use PDVD for BD disc and VLC or MPC for encoded movies. I think that even if I play the ripped m2ts with PDVD or NeroShowtime if it has AC3 track it sounds similar to what I experience with the encodings.

I demux the audio stream with TSmuxeR from m2ts and convert it with Eac3To like this: "eac3to 00050.dts 00050.ac3 -640"

Are there any other settings I should try with eac3to for encoding? What settings do you think of for the multimedia players?

I use PDVD for BD disc
Then if "the people's voices and the sound effects are equally loud and balanced," your default setting include aply DRC (Dynamic Range Compression), only recommended with poor audio equipment or in 'night' mode.

and VLC or MPC for encoded movies.
Then if "The difference is very noticeable by the loudness of the speech and sound effects" your default setting is don't aply DRC (more dynamic range, best quality).

I demux the audio stream with TSmuxeR from m2ts and convert it with Eac3To like this: "eac3to 00050.dts 00050.ac3 -640"
Please extract also with eac3to, don't use TsMuxer for extract, only for mux to ts/m2ts.

What settings do you think of for the multimedia players?
You need try and select the appropriate settings to your audio equipment, room and tastes. But use the same in all players before compare.

TX for the tips, I'll check the DRC settings. :thanks:

What's the advantage (better) to demux the audio streams from the m2ts with eac3to instead of tsmuxer?

Delay included, gaps/overlaps corrected, DialogNormalization cancelled and direct re-codification if needed.
