Support for DXVA by new Intel GMA 4500HD laptop GFX ?

Hello.
I want to buy a new laptop with x264 decoding ability on the gfx and I don't know if the Intel GMA 4500HD will have the ability to decode such material on 3. party players.
I have made quite alot of research on the net, but cannot figure out if this new onboard gfx will have the ability to decode fx x264 content via bitstream mode in MPC-HC.
Maybe in the future?

If MPC-HC could be made to support the intel GMA 4500HD gfx it would be really nice. But first i need to know if it can actually be done!

MPC-HC does not support DXVA with Intel GMA and will not support it either because Intel is refusing to release the required documentation.

Otherwise I could have used the laptop as a htpc when home, and saved money.

The laptop im looking for was a nice buy with hdmi output and everything.

Do you know which software players will actually have acces to the neccesery documentation to actually implement the high def decoding on the intel GMA?

And as i understand it, no other program besides MPC-HC supports DXVA on x264 streams inside a mkv container.

You can use the decoder from PowerDVD together with MPC.

Will this also work in vista with the EVR custom option?

Or should i revert to XP if i buy the laptop (it comes with Vista preinstalled)

I can confirm that it works, I'm trying right now, PowerDVD 8 H.264 decoder (DXVA enabled) + EVR CP + MPC-HC rev 923 (Geforce 9800GTX).

In my experince it is pure nightmere to understand everything about filters and which should have higher merit and so on.

Have you used a guide, or can you refer me to one which can set up a clean installed vista computer to use mpc-hc and pdvd8 filters on x264 content material that is within dxva specification?

The usual way for me is to install cccp and then replace the mplayerc that comes with it with the mpc-hc and install coreavc. But i would like to be able to use the dxva capabilitys!

I tried that at my friends house and the pdvd filter gave alot of errors when we tries to integrate it into mpc-hc. It was a real nightmare.

PowerDVD filter has a issue that will always use DXVA (if enabled) even if the files are not DXVA compatible (files that have more then the allowed number of reference frames that is allowed by DXVA).
I'll try to make a guide later on.

You do the math.I can't see why would they want people to use commercial software and not open-sourced one. Or did they offer the specs with a certain price? (which Cyberlink could pay)

That would really be a nice thing of you, and im sure many people will find it useful.
All the filter issues and conflicts is making me very dizzy :-)
And as you point out yourself, i would like to use coreavc with non-dxva material. So how does one do just that?
Have two seperate MPC-HC installations, with different configurations(not sure that is possible)? Or maybe two register files (*.reg files) that enables or disables the PDVD filters?
And one has to run each one before before playing a x264 file!

Im sure there are other solutions as well.

MPC-HC has the option to store its settings in an .ini file.

Im aware of this.
But you can't really in the .inf file control which filters are registered and not.
Altso the .inf file can't control which filter merit is given higher priority and so on. So one really has little control over filter configuration in the .inf file.

The filter registrarion is done with regsvr32 as im aware and the filter merits should be changed in registry as well as I recall.

MPC has the ability to override filter merits. You can also block filters. See Options -> External Filters.

Yes, just like clsid said, just change the filter merit there and you can use them by that order, of course it you try to DXVA a incompatible h.264 file with pdvd filter you either get a black screen with no playback or a green screen with audio. When that happens just change the dxva option inside the pdvd filter options.
