View Full Version : Looking for a decent FLV -> SWF converter

From what I understand, video data in most SWF file is already stored as an FLV, so it makes little sense to re-encode it.

However, all the converters I have found seem to re-encode the FLV file as if it was any other PC video file, resulting in a SWF that is much larger than the original while being lower quality.

Is there any way or any application out there (preferably freeware) that can just simply embend the FLV video file within a SWF player? Resulting in a self-playing SWF file (provided you have flash installed) that has the FLV file within it? Preferably a player with playback controls but I don't care if it dosen't come with one.

Its a large pain and hassle, not to mention very lossy quality-wise, to re-enode FLV files in order to get them into a SWF file with the current tools I have.

Why not just use something meant for the job, like JW Player or Flowplayer?

Because I want to post it on photo galleries and other sites that allow uploading of SWF animations, not just play it on my computer, I already have a FLV player installed.

Most players I saw are seperate from the FLV file, they expect you to upload both files to the server, then through html code tell the SWF player where to load the FLV file, this wouldent be allowed on most gallery sites, and I honestly would much much rather have the SWF be self-playing.

I need a way to embend the FLV file within the SWF player.

Optimally what I am looking for, if such a thing exsists, is a small freeware app that contains a blank small video player in SWF, and an app that allows me to embend a flv file within that SWF player.

probably not what you're looking for, but you can do this with the official adobe flash. there used to be a 30-day trial

Akuma: Maybe check out MP3FLV, though it's limited and not free.

Or did you find something by now? I'm still on the looks (on this (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=144813) thread. [It's more of a container rather than codec issue.])

yes, that would be the most obvious choice.
