im trying to convert a couple of hddvds i own to a AVI Xvid format, while trying to get the rebuilt .evo to load with haali (in graphedit) i uninstalled a couple codec packs and somewhere in the process WMVideo Decoder DMO was removed from the list of direct show filters, ive looked all over google and cant find anything linking to an install file, so how do i reinstall it/get it back on the list of dsf?

Hi,

WMVVideo Decoder DMO is a WMV9 / VC.1 decoder filter and it is part of the windows media player 11. So the only thing you have to do to get it back is to reinstall WMP11.

If you, like me, prefer not to install the WMP11, you might search for "Windows Media Format 11 Runtime", the filename is wmf11dist.exe. This package installs only the direct show filters which are normally included with WMP11, but it does not install the WMP11 itself.

The pack has older decoders that have problems with interlaced VC-1. Better to install WMP11.

Thanks for the information about the version. Nevertheless I found, that wmf11dist.exe is included in the full setup of the WMP11 and can be extracted from there e.g. with winrar. This makes it possible to install the actual version of the codecs, but not WMP11 itself.

Ah, didn't know that. But tbh I couldn't think of a reason why I would prefer one of the older WMPs over WMP11, so I might as well install it.

Hi Jaybee,

The reason is simple: I don't have any WMP from MS installed ( I removed them with the help of XPLite ) and I am using Media Player Classic instead.

Less microsoft components installed = less bloatware = fewer possible security issues. :D

Ah, I see. I don't use it either (Zoom Player here) but I didn't know you could uninstall it. In fact there are situations where you need it. For example the payTV provider I'm subscribed to (Premiere) offers live internet streams of sports events that need WMP for the drm.
