I looked all over the forum for an answer, but basically I wanted
to know if there was an program that would let me make a DVD,
with AVI or MP4 files, and add a little menu to select them.
Without transcoding, just as put the files on one DVD as they
are and play them over. Of course this will be playable on PC only.

Any suggestions are welcomed ^^.

Cheers.

Hi!

If you put them all in one folder, you could drag and drop the folder onto VLC - and select from the automatically generated playlist...

Ok, but that will only play the files.
What I meant to do is to burn them on a DVD with a Menu.

Thanks for the reply though.

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding your need. Even if dragged and dropped from a DVDto VLC, the playlist acts as a menu.

Is there something else you need, if so, what and why?

Hello setarip_old.

What I'm trying to do is this:

- Make a DVD with AVI or MP4 files and add a little menu.

So basically it would be like making a DVD, but instead of transcoding the source video to MPEG2,
they will stay on their original format (AVI or MP4).
And add a menu to easy select the chapters (or videos) to play them.

I have a collection of episodes and I'm trying to free up some space on my PC.
So therefore I need to back them up on a DVD and be able to play them at will at a later time.

If you know of anything that can help please let me know.

Cheers.

Where are the original discs?

@Burning Fury

Now that you've explained your specific need, I would once again suggest to you that you can accomplish this simply - by burning all of your files to a DVD, loading the disc into the VLC player (By selecting "Open disc") - and using the automatically generated Playlist as your menu.

If you believe this does not serve your purpose, please be good enough to explain why, so that I or others may be better able to help you...

I don't think that standalone players support AVI or MP4 menus yet; that said you can add menus to avi with DivX Author, and to mp4 with this guide (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=66583).

Hi!

The OP's initial post to this thread states:Of course this will be playable on PC only.

TMPGEnc Authoring Works 4 or older TMPGEnc DVD Author 3 allows you to author DivX v6 avi's to a DVD and allows adding a fancy menu. But if the avi's are not Divx 6, it will auto encode them to that standard first before authoring them. I believe there are even a couple of DVD Players around that can play Divx 6 with menus, but of course the PC can play them with no issues.
