Amazon Unbox Conversion Help

I purchased the Blu-ray version of The Dark Knight on Amazon Sunday night. Today I open my email and find that I am also entitled to a free download for the Unbox video player. I have started the download but the actual file is virtually useless to me as is. I was wondering if it is possible to convert the file (it's still downloading so I don't know it's extension or specific info yet) to either a DivX avi file or an ipod compatible mp4. I tried searching google and got virtually no good results. I searched this forum and found only a couple closed topics in which someone was trying to steal a rental movie. Any information is greatly appreciated. If you need more info just tell me what you need and I'll post when I can find the answer (probably after the download is finished).

You got an email from Amazon just now mentioning "Unbox"?

I don't have a blu ray drive for my PC and don't feel like buying one.
The email doesn't specifically mention unbox. It says that I'm entitled to view the movie instantly for free from Amazon Video On Demand Store. It gives me a promotion code worth $14.99 to purchase the VOD movie, download to 2 pcs or tivos and 2 portable video players (ipod is not included on the compatible list). I assume that I could have actually used the $14.99 to get any movie i wanted but I got the Dark Knight cause I didn't think it through. I got the email this morning but didn't open it until like noon.

I didn't understand correctly. There are rental and purchase movies. If you have a purchase movie then it is fine for you to discuss conversion of it here.

It is a purchase movie, that came for free with my purchase of The Dark Knight. It gave me a warning that said something like, "Because of license agreements we cannot offer The Dark Knight for viewing online after June 30, 2009. If you want to continue to view the movie after June 30, 2009 you must download it before that date."

My Playstation 3 (which I use to play blu-rays) and PC are in the same room. If I want to watch the movie I'd simply use the actual disc. The only way I would use the file is to put on my ipod or cut up and edit to use in video projects. I mean ya "right now" (until my physical disc gets delivered) it is extremely useful. But once I get that disc I'll never have any interest in watching the movie on my computer as opposed to my HDTV.

Amazon Unbox uses DRM-laden WMV to deliver its videos. WMV DRM is removeable two ways: Capturing the video as it is rendered, which means re-encoding is necessary (should be fine for you, then), or actually stripping the DRM. The latter is harder, but is discussed all over the Decrypting forum here. As for the former... anyone know if a DirectShow graph can open DRM-encumbered media? If so, a simple graph should work, which can be opened by AviSynth and processed and fed to your encoder.

It means that I believe Doom9 forum has been a little overzealous in the attempt to avoid helping those members with rule 6 material. I would prefer not to drag down the topic with a forum policy issue, but at the same time this is such an obvious example that I feel simply and non-disruptively voicing my opinion might go a ways towards re-obtaining a more sane enforcement of the rules on this forum. Anyways, like I said, I would prefer not to drag down the topic with a forum policy debate.
