Trouble ripping Dark Knight

Dark Knight!! Anyone besides me having trouble ripping this . I've tried Fab and Rip It For Me.....no luck!!

Hi!

I can finally say it - The April 2008 DVDFab HD Decrypter v.4.120 failed dismally when trying to rip the R1 version of "The Dark Knight"!

On the other hand, DVD95Copy Pro v.3.9.168, went through the disc like a hot knife through butter and properly created a full disc backup.

As a sidenote - The recently released "MakeMKV" beta (Search the Doom9 Forum for the thread about this promising new program) incorrectly indicated that it had made a good rip converted to .MKV format. The video portion of the .MKV stops somewhere between 30 and 40 minutes into the film (audio continues throughout)...

**EDIT**A second rip by "MakeMKV" resulted in a perfectly good "movie-only" that played properly from start to finish under VLC.

I have DVDFab Platinum 4.1.2.0 and it didnt work for me either.

Tried Wombler advise and it ripped it sucessfully.

Just downloaded the 5.2.0.8 beta and ripped two movies to iso and neither one is on the hard drive that it was supposed to go to. No clue where there are, It took the time to burn them, the hdd was flashing while reading the disc and the harddrive lite was blinkin, but they are not on the hard drive.

Have you tried right-clicking on your hard drive, selecting "Search" and entering the name of the file (or *.ISO, if you saved as .ISO)?

sure did, the only thing that comes back is in C:drive/recent documents is a 1kb shortcut icon for both rips. searced whole computer.

Very specific that it go to P drive and was displayed to send there the whole time it was ripping.

Strange thing is that after both movies DVD 5 was closed out, but now that I have reopened it, it is showing under target, the first movie that I did. But it confirms that it was in fact targeted to P drive with the movie name, but never made it there.

Beta has problems, click on iso icon to make iso, target says iso; it ends up under my documents;dvd fab;temp;full disc; while going back and forth on it's path; it just vanished. Swear to God it just vanished. It was there as a regular folder with the vob's ifo's bup's and I went up the directory came back and it was gone.

If you do, in fact, mean "burn", perhaps the program's settings include something such as, "Delete temporary files after burning"? (I say "perhaps", beause I don't have this version of the program)

I searched and had the same results as cwl7454. I then tried to rip it again and left the temp folder open and the target folder open. It ripped to the temp folder as ts folders (Target is .iso) but when it was suppose to be moving to the other as iso it didn't. also usually there are 2 task one is copy and the other is create iso. It's only doing the one task

you were right delete temp files after burning was checked, but it should be in the output directory or more importantly the iso should be in the P drive where it was told to target. And it always opens with the first movie in the target. Going to leave devolper figure it out.

Unless both of you are misunderstanding something about the program setup and/or usage in which case, perhaps another member can clarify for you (Again, I don't have that version), it's probably time for you to email the author/publisher - or use a different program, such as (not freeware) DVD95Copy Pro...

In these circumstances the video files (ISO or otherwise) are just temporary files and this option is designed to delete them after burning is complete.

The program has therefore deleted the files as requested.

If you want to retain them just uncheck the option.

When I ripped with Fab 5122, I just used it to rip the raw files onto my HDD in Full Disk and DVD9 mode. I used Shrink to create the ISO. I don't like to use the ISO modes for either Fab or RipIt, because I've had problems with them in the past on other disks.

I don't know if that's what made mine work, but everyone's been right on the Beta so far. It'll do the whole disk in ISO mode. Double check your drive's firmware, maybe?

Seta's also right about DVD95. It works like a charm on pretty much any disk. How long have you been saying that on these boards, Seta? LOL

Hi!Seta's also right about DVD95. It works like a charm on pretty much any disk. How long have you been saying that on these boards, Seta? LOLAt this and other forums, since it was first released, about 5 years ago.

For whatever reason, it remains "low on the radar" - probably because so many users of such programs insist on only using either freeware or one or two payware programs that have curried favor with some people...

Unfortunately, RipIt4me was discontinued in April 2007 - and there are/will be no further updates. Although it's still able to properly rip the majority of DVDs, it's not able to deal with some of the more recent copy protection schemes...

downloaded the latest new version yesterday 5.2.0.9 and unchecked the delete after rip in temp files. It ripped and saved the video ts files but once again did not make an iso as requested.

Twice I tried imgburn and once with nero, attempted to create iso from the ts files and partway thru the burn, screen went black. went to fengtao and left a support request/problem note.

Sounds like there's something not quite right there.

The video files should be created in the ISO if that's the option selected.

I see also you've contacted Fengtao and that's probably your best route.

I was having trouble copying "The Dark Knight" as well, but then I got an idea: how about I defrag my PC's hard drive?

That did the trick!! Now, I can copy the movie using either a combination of AnyDVD/CloneDVD or DVDFab Platinum.

Sometimes, the hardest problems require the easiest solution.

I hope that everyone else gets their particular situation fixed.

in the fixes in the beta's I see that they were "trying" or had problems with other burning software to include imgburn and nero.

Either in the download of the DVD Fab 5; 08 or 09 beta or the MSupdate on Tues. it corrupted my MBR and NTLDR was missing.
Fortunately had raid on "C" drive and had did complete backup with Acronis week ago and when I went in to do the restore it gave me a option to just do a restore on the MBR and 1.
What a lifesaver!!

Will continue to experiment with different options as Fengtao was no help, told me to download 09 beta and click on the iso icon, "behind the file folder", which had already did and tried.

Quite a few fixes in the past week, most within the last three;

Not going to give up, as they are a beta and previous version worked just fine. Went to them because of course decrypt and ri4m are no longer able to handle the newest.

Are you going to push the paid programs for bluray also, while it can be frustrating at times it is very much a learning experience. Trying different alternatives to see what you can and can't do.

So far have only run into one of the dvd's that I haven't been able to make a good iso far. Won't evan playback on VLC or mount on an image drive evan tho I have full images by 2 different programs and movie only by one.

I don't give up easily.

It's actually a very interesting and simple (which I read as cheaper to implement) structure protection on D.K.
I did a manual rip and fix on linux and there were only some 'token' unreadable sectors (64 or so), a few unreferenced cells and 8 worthless cells right before the main movie.
(if left they didn't hurt but caused a little glitch from the joker cameo and movie start.

Only vts's 1-4 are used, the protection is mainly based on 'borked' ifo's for 5-9. (Right of the bat they show 601 menu language units of 250 cells.

It is intially fairly successful at preventing useful tools from parsing.

Does DVD Fab support .IFO ripping?

I have been using AutoGK for a LONG time and I love it. I used this in combination with DVD Decryptor and RipIt4Me until all of these new copy protections have come out. RipIt4Me still works for most DVDs but on things like the Dark Knight I guess it's time to start using something else.

But my main concern is support for .IFO mode so that I can convert the movies to XviD.

Did you finally figure out like me that the "iso" request does not work in the free beta but does work in the (paid) platinum and gold version.

The paid version did handle both of the Disney and TDK as it was supposed to. Requested that it make an iso and it did, but the free version would still not make the iso. For me, just means an extra step to run it thru image burn. Am dissapointed by Fengtao that they wouldn't tell me this in my emails to them.

Didn't use the paid version per say, it was the 30 day trial version of the platinum paid version. 10 days left.

So am still able to use the free version to rip to video ts and then use image burn to convert to iso.

I miss ri4m so much, evan tho can still use it, it is getting less and less frequent. I must comend the person that made it availible to us and do wish (on the Christmas list) that someone somewhere would take it up again, you Know offshore and update it. You were able to do what you wanted to do with that program and so convenient.

BTW, the Make MKV that you mentioned previously, looks an awful lot like image burn, what's up with that, at least the GUI does?

My solution was: DVD43 + ImgBurn + PgcEdit 9.0. I set ImgBurn to ignore read errors, created an ISO, unpacked it to an empty folder and cleaned it up with PgcEdit. Works perfectly.

Thanks for the info on the DVDFAB 5. It worked great.

Now I noticed that the files were save in a Nero showtime files. I used Record now to burn a DVD, once done I then tried to play it on the computer by going to the folder and clicking on the .IFO files it would play. However the auto start mode when inserted into my DVD drive would not launch the DVD.. I thought maybe I had a bad burn, re burned using Nero software and again same results.
Thinking that something was wrong I burned 1 more time and received the same results.
Now , I just took the DVD to my DVD player and it works.....

Should I try spinning around in a clockwise or counter clockwise rotation and click my heals 3 times????

DVD43 allowed ImgBurn to read sectors unencrypted. Read errors were still there, because they are a part of the anti-copy protection. These sectors with read errors must be mapped as to be skipped in the corresponding IFO file (so that a DVD player does not choke on them). So, I loaded the ripped DVD in PgcEdit, removed the read-error-protected cells and did a final cleanup using FixVTS. As simple as that.

As to your OS question - I'm using Windows 2000.

I spent half a day on 1/4/09 trying to figure this out - thanks for the hints. A search function in the forums would be useful. Finally updated from fab 4 to basic Fab5 and requested an iso but couldnt find the title on my HD. Tried again, no iso, but at least the main movie file - title was there. Ran it through DVD shrink, open files button & later burned, it plays. May have been an update from fab since the earlier problems in 12/08. The "write" option on the fab page had 2 arrow's, one was red apparently to stop the write function that doesnt exist in the basic edition anyway. Could have had my fab files open if it matters. I knew that fab basic had stopped shrinking to fit on a dvd. Thanks to Fab for their work on this. Dark Knight - Dark Night, I will miss this joker
