View Full Version : My projector changes resolution when I select MPC-HC fullscreen mode...why?

Hi!
I was testing 1080p@24hz with my projector using either powerstrip or ati ccc.
There was some tearing with pretty much all renderers (less with Haali) so I decided to select the fullscreen option.
Well for some reason, when I go to full screen the projector changes to something like 900x1080 or something like that.
Any ideas?

Think he wasn't referring to the "Auto-zoom" option, but to the "Change fullscreen resolution" option ;)

Oh yes I understood that..I was just mentioned that mine has auto zoom but the change resolution is not checked. I will try using that to force the correct resolution but still its odd that its changing like that isnt it?

Which renderer are you using? Overlay Renderer maybe?
Depending on the graphics driver options, my second screen will display the video in fullscreen as soon as an overlay is created on the primary screen.
If that happens, the second screen changes it's resolution according to video size. It goes back to "normal" resolution when the overlay terminates.
In the ATI CCC you can configure the overlay behavior at "Avivo(tm) Video" -> "Theater Mode" ;)

I am pretty sure it was EVR and VMR...I dont use Overlay so it wasnt that one for sure.
I will be testing tonight as I couldnt do it yesterday.

I think that doesn't happen with EVR or VMR. Only the Overlay Renderer is effected by the "Theater Mode" option.
So you move the video window (playing the video) over to the projector and the resolution is normal. But as soon as you maximize the video window (fullscreen) it changes the resolution?

Sorry let me clarify.
I only use the projector...no other monitors attached to my computer.
I can use the regular full screen by double clicking on the window but if I use the FULL SCREEN OPTION inside the MPC options to get rid of tearing thats when it changes resolution.

So I'd say: Try another renderer. Or if you use EVR or VMR9 try (un)checking the "Direct3D Fullscreen" option.
If nothing helps with the available DirectShow renderers, you may want to try an OpenGL-based renderer, as available in MPlayer or VLC Player.
IMHO the OpenGL renderer works best. If only ATI didn't break it with each new driver version
