Hiya, i have some issues with my encodes.

The problem is: xbox keep re-buffing in some parts of the movies. (so it stop and fills the buffer continuosly)

Data of the source:

I know the bitrate of the source isnt enought to use that WMV settings, but im trying to find a general template for all my HD clips.
Im using Tmpgenc 4.0 express
And the target is to playback it on my xbox360 from usb drive.

Anyone see anything that should cause that buffer problem?

Thanks.

Sorry for my English...

Duration : 21mn 45s
What is the reason to convert so small clips? What is about to mux video into mp4 container? XBOX360 accepts H264 video in mp4 container

The example source is a tv-show chapter

As i said, im trying to get a general template to use, source independant (blue ray iso, hdtv....) with same quality as original (size doesnt matter)

And, i dont want .mp4 because xbox360 dont allow mp4 clips bigger than 4.6GB and only with aac audio. And i dont want to split movies.

I have not used Tmpgenc before, so unfortunately I cannot test my advice. Perhaps your problems is the bit rate of your encode. It is my understanding that best results for encoding a movie to play on 360 are observed when using CBR (constant bit rate) and to keep the bit rate restricted to what the 360 is capable of receiving. I use WME and WMVmuxer for my bluray encodes, the bitrate I use is 12MB CBR.

xbox doesnt have any bitrate limit on wmv. I thing 12MB isnt enought to get same quality from source (Blue ray AVC).

I can see almost all movie without problem (and only in some scenes of some encodes i get the error).
I´ve tryed CBR encodes with high bitrate, and the same happens, some encodes work well, others not. If the problem was the bitrate, CBR encodes shouldn´t work at all. But ive tryed 50MB CBR encodes and some works well, other have that buffer problem....

(sorry about my english)

12MB CBR for a 1080P bluray is fine, you could even go as high as 14MB, but any more is not going to produce any better results.

Your working with a 720P file, trust me, your bitrates are way out of line.

I think you need to do a lot more research on how to encode for the 360. Start with the search function for this site, you may be amazed at what you find.

Ok. Lets see that:

Video
ID : 4113 (0x1011)
Menu ID : 1 (0x1)
Format : VC-1
Format profile : AP@L3
Duration : 2h 32mn
Bit rate : 26.7 Mbps
Width : 1 920 pixels
Height : 1 080 pixels
Display aspect ratio : 16/9
Frame rate : 23.976 fps
Colorimetry : 4:2:0
Scan type : Progressive

Overall bit rate : 30.7 Mbps
Maximum Overall bit rate : 48.0 Mbps

Thats the Video from original Blu-Ray VC-1 movie. So something like that should be the way for VC1 encodes, to get same quality as legal vc-1 sources.

But:

Video
ID : 4113 (0x1011)
Menu ID : 1 (0x1)
Format : AVC
Format/Info : Advanced Video Codec
Format profile : High@L4.1
Format settings, CABAC : Yes
Format settings, ReFrames : 4 frames
Duration : 2h 5mn
Bit rate : 32.0 Mbps
Width : 1 920 pixels
Height : 1 080 pixels
Display aspect ratio : 16/9
Frame rate : 23.976 fps
Standard : NTSC
Resolution : 24 bits
Colorimetry : 4:2:0
Scan type : Progressive

Overall bit rate : 35.4 Mbps
Maximum Overall bit rate : 48.0 Mbps

Thats the Video from original Blu-Ray AVC movie. Since VC-1 get lower quality at same bitrate than AVC codec (gurus words). A 12-14MB bitrate VC-1 encode from that source will get less than 33% of quality source.
Maybe you dont apreciate that on 32" TV, but, try it on any laservue TV...

Since Xbox dont have any bitrate limit, and 1GB<1$.....

There is only one law at encoding, you cant get anything better than source.

Pd. I have same problem with VC-1 remuxed (Direct Stream) .wmv movie. So, i think something wrong happens with my hpfs drive.

"I think you need to do a lot more research on how to encode for the 360. Start with the search function for this site, you may be amazed at what you find." <== Maybe i have bigger plasma than you, and that 8MB encodes from guides arent enought for me.

"I know the bitrate of the source isnt enought to use that WMV settings, but im trying to find a general template for all my HD clips." In my first post, but people doesnt seem to read.
To use 12MB CBR for BR-ISO(m2ts-AVC) source is simply wrong.

I'm trying to be as polite as possible. I've been doing this for quite some time. I'm currently streaming all my movies, Bluray, to my 50" 1080p tv. You're bitrates are not correct. Search the forum, many others are doing this as well. I have yet to find ANY site, this included, that would ever have such a high bitrate for a 1080p file, let alone a 720p.

Besides, you're reencoding, you WILL lose quality no matter what, regardless of whatever percentage you think it may be. And different codecs use different bitrates, that is a fact.

Ok, thanks, but i will keep wasting bitrate/Space.

I´ve tested and the problem was related to my usb drive. My VC-1 template works well on my xbox with other usb drive.

Bye.
