View Full Version : Recommended audio bit rate for x264-encode?

Hi there

Well, as the title says.. What is the recommended bit rate for the audio when encoding with x264 (both SD and HD)? It's easy to find out how high the bit rate for video should be, but I haven't really read anything regarding the audio.

I usually encode my audio with Nero AAC: NDAAC-He-MultiChannel-HQ with the MP4-AAC extension in MeGUI, but I'm not really certain about how high the bit rate should be set in order to be considered as high quality.
I mostly work with music videos and concerts, and most of my downloaded encodes from HDBits with such contents have the bit rate 384 Kbps. Is this a good rate to aim for?

I guess I could search for forums for this answer but I might as well ask now that I've started this thread.. Is there any clearly better choice of profile than mine? As most people, I find it much easier to compare video quality rather than audio.

Until I learn more about the audio-part of encoding, it would be nice to have a decent bit rate in my encodes :)

Thanks

I see. So you prefer AAC-LC rather than HE-AAC? I've tried to read about these two, but can't seem to get the same answers about which one to actually use.

My sources are most often in AC3. WAV comes up from time to time.
