I know that some of you already knows it but for me this is a groundbreaking news and being Doom9 out of sight, someone could have missed it!

A huge :thanks: to all the development members for still working on this that is my favourite codec. Ok, there's no need that someone now comes up saying "use x264!". I encode mainly for SAP playback and still I found nothing better than Xvid for that purpose.

Just a question anyway: I noticed that Koepi had to add "manually" the VAQ patch. Why this patch wasn't included in the official release?

Thank you all again!

i have a quad core q6600, i get same fps for 1st pass (160 ish), but i get 133 ish on 2nd pass, used to get 70fps with XviD 1.2.127 29032008.exe so very happy with the speed increase:)

What is the magic behind the big improvement?

i doubt sse4 are "so much" useful for speed...

i doubt sse4 are "so much" useful for speed...Indeed, especially since the only "SSE4" optimization is that of replacing movq+punpck with pmovzx... which I have already measured on both Penryn and Nehalem to be slower than the original code.

Oh, and the optimizations are in two or three places in one function in GMC.

(Also, the "SSE3" optimizations will have no effect on any CPU other than Pentium 4, except perhaps to waste a bit of code cache size.)

Multithreading

XviD 1.2.127 29032008 is multi-threaded too.

There must be some significant changes in the multi-threaded codes in 1.2.1 Release.

I still use this version, 1.2.1 final has broken aspect ratio on playback. Also it was a much cleaner package, without all that extra stuff Koepi bundles.

Hey, i just tried xvid encoding with the newest xvid codec, but somehow my CPU load is only around 30% :(

Are there special codecs for core i7 so that he uses more then only 30%?

other options -> encoder -> number of threads (set it accordingly to the number of cores of your CPU. remember core i7 has hyperthreading too).

^Can you just leave that setting at 0? As supposedly that autodetects if not mistaken.

I tried it with 0 (auto) and with 8, and both times the overall CPU load from all 8 cores is around 30% :(

the problem may even lie in the decoder for the source format... however without more info we cant help you.
