Tank you very much! :)
Seems like a very good effort and it definitely has much more functions than the original MPUI (I'll call it oMPUI from now on). Cheers for improving it.
Few comments after initial testing of MPUI081030U.7z (the MPUI.exe file is from 2008-12-04):
- Works very well.
- Very good options.
- The menu appears differently than oMPUI. Not sure if technically worse, but the menu items appear as buttons. It's strange. Also, the menu buttons don't stay "pressed" when hovering the menu items, so it's a bit hard to identify the menu button of the current opened menu (on oMPUI it does stay pressed).
- It would be nice if you had tooltips help for *everything*, even if it seems trivial to you. Not all options are understandable for novice users. As an alternative, you can supply a simple text help file with descriptions of ALL the menu items, options, etc. I liked the link to the man page of mplayer :) Also, you could add some release notes about changes and different versions on sourceforge.
- Not sure what's the difference between the unicode and non-unicode versions. Is it for the application text/menus/etc? Also, Some text appears as boxes (see screenshots).
- I liked the different aspect ratio profiles.
- I liked the mouse wheel usage and toggle (MMB). Maybe you could add more functions? like seeking, next/prev track, etc?
- It would be nice if it had options to resize the subtitles. I liked the video->expand with black bands option, maybe it should belong in the subtitles menu?
- Personally, I'd like to see software scaler options for "standard" resolutions (w:1280, w:1920, etc). Maybe fixed lanczos, maybe configurable.
- Maybe add a list of recently used files on the file menu?
- You can pack the executable with UPX (I used 3.03, --lzma). It packs it from 1.5M to 450K.
But this is nitpicking :) very good effort IMHO. Keep up the good work! looking forward to check more releases. I'll keep using it and leave more feedback if I have any.

because some describe are in chinese, it may need a chinese font.
use mouse drap subtitle in video image, it will change postion of subtilte on screen. while press "ctrl" key on keyboard, drap subtitle will scale subtlte. drap video image will move postion of MPUI windows.
you can see screenshot about some function in pre-post.

when press "ctrl" key, drap video image will change aspect of video. --->while drag ,release ctrl key -----> don't affect the function.
when press alt key, Drag up and down ----> change contrast of video. while drag ,release alt key -----> change saturation of video.
when press alt key, Drag left and right ----> change brightness of video. while drag ,release alt key -----> change hue of video.
when press alt key, Drag ---->while drag ,release alt key ,then press ctrl key -----> change gamma of video.
when press shift key, Drag up and down ----> change scale of video. while drag ,release shift key -----> don't affect the function.
when press shift key, Drag left and right ----> change volmne. while drag ,release shift key -----> don't affect the function.
ctrl,shift,alt only is a flag used to start a drag mode. when a drag mode is running, those key's status are not important.
when use DVDnav mode to play a DVD directory or DVD disc, press "g" key or click "Return to main menu" menu item to open dvd navigation menu, use mouse to handle,select those chapt,angle, set of DVD. you also can use "j,k,l,i,h" key as "left,down,right,up,select" key of DVDnav to handle the navigation menu.
while press ctrl key , roll wheel of mouse will seek media. I think if middle button of mouse have too many features, it is not a good thing.
press "enter" key, mpui will use workarea of user desktop. In this way, users can handle other work while playing video.
LMB = Left-mouse button
MMB = Middle-mouse button
RMB = Right-mouse button
In lyric panel of playlist form, there have a pop-menu to set encoding of lyric. Similar to the ie, firefox's functions.

I tried to look at a video file (a VOB sample file) in a RAR packed file.
It did not work, I got this error.
(I also updated the unrar.dll file to the latest version, same error)

A few things I've noticed:
* You should remove the XP Manifest. There was a reason the original MPUI didn't use "themed" controls (e.g. it breaks the menubar), I can remove the Manifest manually though
* It would be nice to have a dropdown-box for video renderers too. DirectX/Overlay isn't very good (Aero problems, can't move between screens, only one app can create an Overlay at a time)
* Storing the "MPUI.ini" in "C:\WINDOWS" is probably the worst location of all. None-Admin users don't have access. Try running your MPUI as "guest" and it will throw an error!
* To do it properly keep one "MPUI.ini" per installation in the same dir as "MPUI.exe" -or- store the user's "MPUI.ini" in the "%APPDATA\MPUI Settings" folder. Or support both, as SMPlayer does.
:thanks:

GetEnvironmentVariable() isn't safe. I'd recommend to use SHGetFolderPath() instead:
function GetShellDirectory(csidl: DWORD): String;
var
Buffer: PAnsiChar;
begin
GetMem(Buffer, MAX_PATH + 1);
if ShFolder.SHGetFolderPath(GetActiveWindow, csidl, 0, 0, Buffer) = S_OK then
begin
Result := Buffer;
end else begin
Result := '?';
end;
FreeMem(Buffer);
end;
procedure TForm_Main.FormCreate(Sender: TObject);
var
AppData: String;
begin
[...]
AppData := GetShellDirectory(CSIDL_APPDATA);
[...]
end;
Also MPUI shouldn't store/load the "MPUI.ini" in %APPDATA%, when there is a "MPUI.ini" found in the "MPUI.exe" directory!
This way we can provide an installation specific INI file, instead of the global one.
Just imagine you burn MPUI.exe on a CD-ROM and run it via Autorun to create a self-running media disk.
You certainly don't want MPUI to load a "MPUI.ini" with unknown configuration from the users's "%APPDATA" folder in that case.

If you use the proposed GetShellDirectory(CSIDL_APPDATA) function, which doesn't depend on environment vars (like "%APPDATA%" or "%USERPROFILE%"), you can simply check the retrun value for an empty string or for "?". Both indicate that something is wrong! In that case you should fall back to save "MPUI.ini" in the same folder where "MPUI.exe" is located. If MPUI is run form a read-only disc, that will fail, of course. Be prepared for that and catch the error. I think when I run MPUI from a CD-ROM, I really don't want it save it's configuration locally! And if GetShellDirectory(CSIDL_APPDATA) returned a good path (neither empty string nor "?") you can save the "MPUI.ini" in that folder safely.

So you are saying that people should edit their security permissions fist, in order make your MPUI mod run properly from non-Admin accounts?
IMO that's the worst solution of all, when there are plenty ways to do it properly in your code!
The %APPDATA% folder exists for a reason on multi-user operating systems. It's the only "proper" location to store-user specific config files.
Such files just don't belong to the C:\WINDOWS folder...

I already use CSIDL_APPDATA to replace CSIDL_COMMON_APPDATA
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb762181(VS.85).aspx
If you want to keep a separate "MPUI.ini" for each user/account, then use CSIDL_APPDATA.
If you want to keep one "MPUI.ini" for all users/accounts, then CSIDL_COMMON_APPDATA.
If that was the question :confused:

HomeDir:=IncludeTrailingPathDelimiter(ExtractFileDir(ExpandFileName(ParamStr(0))));
AppdataDir:=GetShellDirectory(CSIDL_APPDATA);
if AppdataDir='' then AppdataDir:=HomeDir
else AppdataDir:=IncludeTrailingPathDelimiter(AppdataDir);
ShotDir:=GetShellDirectory(CSIDL_MYPICTURES);
if ShotDir='' then ShotDir:=HomeDir
else ShotDir:=IncludeTrailingPathDelimiter(ShotDir);
if DirectoryExists(ShotDir+'MPUISnap') then ShotDir:=ShotDir+'MPUISnap'
else if CreateDir(ShotDir+'MPUISnap') then ShotDir:=ShotDir+'MPUISnap';
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In vista, use SHGetKnownFolderPath to obtain path of MPUI.ini.
if Win32PlatformIsVista then AppdataDir:=GetShellPath(RFID_APPDATA)
else AppdataDir:=GetFolderPath(CSIDL_APPDATA);
if AppdataDir='' then AppdataDir:=HomeDir
else AppdataDir:=IncludeTrailingPathDelimiter(AppdataDir);
i already update files of mpui-hcb.sourceforge.net

I've just tested your new version of MPUI. Indeed it's a big improvement.
I liked the possibility to move the subtitles with the mouse. Although it doesn't work when using libass, so maybe you could disable that feature if libass is enabled.
Another suggestion, it seems the screenshot folder is by default C:\MPUISnap. This may not be a good idea, the user may have no write permission. Maybe a better location would be a folder inside "My documents" or "My pictures".

^_^ thanks for attention of big brother,code of delphi is easy to understtand. I don't use TRegexpr classise to check output info. seem some code is redundancy.
if (abs(i-SubPos)<=10) and (MSubtitle.Count>0) and (not Ass) then begin
IPanel.Cursor:=crHandPoint; OPanel.Cursor:=crHandPoint;
HideMouseAt:=GetTickCount+2000;
end
in this way, mouse don't runtime drap and scale subtitle with libass
mplayer in "mplayer-ww.sourceforge.net" can move libass subtitle,vob subtitle and change scale of all type subtitle, because author modify code of mplayer. I already modify screenshot folder to "My documents\MPUIsnap" (because win98 have no "My pictures" folder). if want to use mouse to handle menu of DVDnav,coordinate of mouse need to scale base on image's size.
mplayer only forward seek a stream. use pipe to handle stream, is a trouble thing.
use UTF-8 to handle input and output info within mplayer. if want to display a nlv info in OSD,
please to use a utf8String. osd_show_text + a UTF8String.
to display a value of property, use osd_show_property + ${property_name}
'set_mouse_pos '+IntToStr(mouse_X x clip_Width ÷ Wid_Panel.Width)+' '
+IntToStr(mouse_Y x clip_Height ÷ Wid_Panel.Height));
inc(Count);
if pos(s,rs)>0 then exit;
if Count>1 then rs:=rs+','+s else rs:=s; //right is't my need, overlap erase hehe
I now don't understand my code writed by me long long ago,
admire previous idea , don't need current mplayer command
and property. completely trace and simulate sub's flow.
Arc,sub,drag&drop,dvd,move sub are things two years ago.
because mpui, i approach programe as a hobby from a person
don't understand computer. imitate completely, code don't have much difficulty.
from the accumulation of some simple code. encounter with issue when i use mpui ,
i just modify code, little and little to now.
a mistake in code become a helpful thing.

mplayer first handle VOB subtitle, secondly is subtitle in a media file ,thirdly is -sub + subString, fourthly is sub loaded by "sub_load" command. if mplayer is restarted, seq of sub will change, we need to trace postion of sub.
'sub_remove' [value] only remove 'ID_FILE_SUB_ID' Type subtitle, FILE_SUB with index [value] or all FILE_SUB.

use property to change var value of mplayer, have no OSD info. use command to change value, will have OSD info.
7z.dll can completely extract RAR and mutil-volume RAR file. only don't like 7zG.exe(7-zip' GUI manage) to handle a file cross mutil-volume as a whole file, but as part of file. unrar.dll can handle file cross mutil-voume as a whole file. 7z.dll sometime can list content of zip file, but don't extract content because implement of nonstandard COM interface need to write ourself, it is a challenge. use 7-zip32.dll to handle 7z file, we don't handle password of archive with file encrypted mode, it always pop-up password dialog of dll. because zip file have no file encrypted mode, so we don't need care about file encrypted mode.
original mainMenu and current toolBar style mainMenu.

else MenuHeight:=height-MWC;
if Opanel.Visible then MenuHeight:=MenuHeight-Opanel.Height;
if Cpanel.Visible then MenuHeight:=MenuHeight-Cpanel.Height;
OPanel.Top will not express height of mainMenu. "height" of mainMenu need to obtain ourself.

to compatible with old version of Mplayer(2006-2008), i use old command and perporty as far as possible. at same time, I base on demuxer to avoid to restart mplayer with new setting as far as possible. it will avoid "-ss" keyframe problem and user can fast switch subtitle,aspect,audio,video track,angle,chapter without restart mplayer.
I don't like a application for Portability be split to mutil-part, too many setting allowing users to dizziness. I only need a easy interface to play media expediently,just as it is not a front.

I tried to look at a video file (a VOB sample file) in a RAR packed file.
It did not work, I got this error.
(I also updated the unrar.dll file to the latest version, same error)

In default, mpui don't use fontconfig(not only for libass) for compatibility and some other reason. even through mplayer support multiple font
face in one font now. for some country or region, some name of font face in registry is not same with
face name in fontconfig. it will bring some issues. when face name is wrong, fontconfig will use
available font face to display text.

ass_font_size is afected by sub-text-scale and ass-font-scale, if use "sub_scale" to modify scale of sub, it seemingly apply same value to ass and non-ass at the same time.

Hi mhj911,
I noticed your MPUI has a Winamp DSP plugin option. With a quick google search, it should be a mplayer mod coming from Stanley Huang who develops MediaCoder. Could you provide that patch for mplayer so that i can add it to my own mplayer build?

Plz use English. Read Forum Rule 13.
The link found in mplayer mailing list archive is no longer available, neither is the patch on sherpya's website. And none of Stanley's modification to MPlayer can be found from MediaCoder's svn repository. MPlayer and MEncoder shipped with MediaCoder do not contain wadsp audio filter.

about wadsp patch, some winamp plugin's setting are save in registry or setting file of itself. if you don't like to display GUI of plugin, you can modify setting in registry or setting file of itself. if "plugins" folder and mplayer.exe in same folder, you can use -af wadsp=plugin's file name to load this plugin.

add a option "use only one intance of MPUI". after swith this option, when use multi-MPUI intance mode, if you open MPUI through open a file associate with mpui, it will find the last instance of mpui to open this file.
if path of subtitle contain comma, mpui will use shortname of path to load sub.

Really like this player and what you have done with it. Nice to see someone add some nice features to MPUI which Ive allways liked.
Where is the best place to keep an eye on your app for updates? Im watching your sourceforge page so if you update that regularly that would be fine (some people dont).
Here's a few suggestions....
If a clip is paused and I click Apply while in the options the movie unpauses.
If its fullscreen and I bring up the playlist or any other extra window then the main controls are no longer clickable.
Could you make it so the view settings are saved when you exit the app, I like it in compact mode and want it that way every time I start it (a setting in the options would do).
That skip intro/outro thing is great but any chance in the future you could make it a per clip option that could get saved into the playlist? Ive allways wanted this option.... I like a show called Robot Chicken which only goes for 12 minutes but the intro and outro add up to 1 min with a real annoying song, being able to watch a bunch without them would rule.
It would be great if the scroll wheel could do seek aswell.
mhj911
1st February 2009, 13:38
you add "Compact=1" in MPUI.ini, it will begin MPUI in compact mode. seemly this forum block my ip now. ctrl+wheel to seek.
save intro/outro info into a files is easy.
PAEz
1st February 2009, 14:30
Thanks for that....I had found the Compact option, added the seek to the wheel (I dont want to have to use the keyboard) and changed the behavior of dropping files onto the play list (I dont understand why you clear the playlist when I drop files on it, I want it to clear only when I drop on the main window). Now I just have to add the save/load intro/outro into a playlist. Thanks again for this I like the additions.

Great peace of software. I have two questions:
1) Is it possible to set it up to automatically dub an audio file that has the same name as video like MPC does?
2) Can it be adjusted to auto recognize the code page of the subtitles (cyrilic and latin) whitout always changing it in the options?
