Hello All,
I searched through this forum and the internet and users mainly advice to encode at 3 or 4 passes.
Even the developer of CCE says that the quality doesn't get better after 3 passes.
But does this also count for episodic dvd's?
Couldn't really find answer or this.

Yes.
2 passes should be enough but in some extreme cases... 3 passes may help

Most of the time the dvd's from tv shows do have low bitrates. Around 3000-3200.
Is 3 passes still enough?

It should be - 3000-3200 is not all that bad. If you are worried or get poor output, re-author the DVD with 3 eps per disc.

If you are using a quality encoder like CCE or HCEnc you should be getting very good output at 3000Kbs. If you see poor quality at that bitrate, you should go back and review the original -- in most cases you will find that it looks poor also.

How many passes would you suggest with that bitrate, keeping in mind that it is an episodic dvd?

This is a test I did sometime back. LINK (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=973580#post973580)
In most case, 3 passes is way more then enough. And sometime 4 passes looks worse than 3 passes

Rarely (very rarely) I may go back and do another pass if the output looked like it needed it. But honestly -- I don't think the extra pass makes any appreciable difference.
