My video playback's juddery. This is a huge development though, i uninstalled realplayer this morning... :cool:

Going to stay watching my rmvb's though mplayer for a while though until there's COOK support in ffdshow. (edit: wikipedia tells me there is. why can't i find it?)

There is some cook related code in ffdshow, but it is incomplete. I'll see if that can get fixed.

Kostya has just comitted the (final?) patch for RV30 Loop filter to the FFmpeg mailing list (http://lists.mplayerhq.hu/pipermail/ffmpeg-devel/2008-December/057886.html). When comitted to svn, than decoding of RV30 and RV40 videos with FFmpeg should give AFAIK the same results as decoding using the Real decoder.

FFdshow SVN already supports RV30 and RV40, however the image is juddery, also the decoder is slower than realplayer.

I'm not sure if kostya is fully aware of the judder because he stated on his site that all his samples play fine, but with a higher CPU usage than realplayer.

He also stated that the code can be sped up a lot with simd optimisations and by replacing a lot of the motion compensation code with h264 code.

Dark Shikari, maybe you(and/or michael?) could take a quick look for us if you want to? ofcourse after you're done with the current h264 enhancements

I am currently porting the mmx h264 mc optimizations to the rv40 decoder.
Should take some time it's my first try in SIMD optimization.

EDIT : I just finished to port an other major mc function : it is currently 14% faster :)

Sorry to bring this old thread on top of surface. I wonder if there's any improvement of RV decode speaking of the juggler playback behavior after a long time. Right now I still cannot completely un-install the RealPlayer from my computer.

I think the problem was solved sometimes ago already as i had yet to encounter another example of similar problems. Do you have any test clips on hand?

RV40 decoding seems pretty stable nowadays with recent ffdshow (and libavcodec based players).

COOK support is still a bit dodgy - although ffdshow now supports it, seeking causes strange audio artifacts (using either gabest splitter or MPCHC internal splitter).
There's still no internal MPCHC COOK decoder.

I play real with MPC but it also works with WMP etc, isnt it better to use the real alternative lite decoder since it's the "official" one instead of ffmpeg or mplayer?

Well yes, but using ffmpeg helps them to improve the decoder if in case there are still clips that doesn't play well.

Well, I am using win7 64bit OS and currently the only 64bit decoder of RV40 I can find is ffdshow. I tried playing my rv40 encoded TV shows encapsulated in matroska yesterday. But the video seems like a slide. Does anybody know anything about that?

I don't have problem with other 64bit ffdshow decoders.
Also I tried to extract the track from the mkv file to rmvb and played it alone, the problem remained. I guess it is not because of the container. Well I am at work now and I will try to upload a sample video file when I get home.

Also, maybe it is because of the video stream does not have a constant frame rate. When I check the video file by mediainfo. It told me the framerate is 25fps. But when I actually play it with 32bit decoders like real alternative and see the framerate from the properties of the video renderer(EVR). The frame rate is less than 25fps and keeps changing from time to time.

After I struggled for a week on 64bit platform. I found that we cannot live without 32bit program in 64bit, a lot of applications did not provide native 64bit version.

I cannot even buy stuff on the net because my bank didn't provide a 64bit plugin for the browser.
I cannot found a 64bit windows live messenger so that all the related applications like IE and flash player should be 32bit.

At last I switched back to 32bit win7, then I just need to maintain one set of softwares.
