Edit: Note that I meant artifact in my title. How that turned into atricact is beyond me.

When using libavcodec I get the following (http://www.pulsarpc.com/stuff/artifact.jpg) when watching a h.264 bluray rip of the movie Sunshine. It hasn't been re0encoded, its the original video stream. It only does this with libavcodec. Playing it back in GraphStudio with the Cyberlink codec doesn't do this.

How was the rip made? Have you tried with another H.264 decoder, e.g. MPC-HC built-in or buying CoreAVC?

It's the video stream was demuxed with eac3to and then muxed with mkvmerge. Like I said, libavcodec does this, but the CyberLink PowerDVD H.264 codec plays it back fine.

I was just curious as to why it does this. In the end I guess I might as well get CoreAVC since it should be an all-around better decoder.

I assume you're using ffdshow tryouts' libavcodec decoder? You should probably bring it to the attention of clsid or one of the other developers either as a bug report on the sourceforge site or in the thread in the "New and alternative video codecs" forum.
