I'm using windows 2008 64-bit. It's known that display card drivers have trouble to get full hardware acceleration level, so the only option for video playback leave to wmp11. After I installed ffdshow as decoder of DVDs, wmp11 still won't play DVD nor VOB files. It just pop up a message box to tell me that "Windows Media Player cannot play DVD video. You might need to adjust your display settings ..."

My question here is, how can I make wmp11 play DVD with ffdshow as decoder? Am I missing something?

Thanks in advance.

What gives you that idea, if I may ask? Have you at least tried other DirectShow players?

Have you installed a x64 build of ffdshow and checked "DVD Decoding" in it's Codecs settings? (Select the "MPEG2" row and you'll find it's checkbox below the list...)

Also, if it's just DVDs why not try mplayer or VLC? Those two do not depend on DirectShow but come with all neccessary decoders built in...

That is a generic message that it spews when DVD playback fails. It actually just means that you haven't got a suitable MPEG-2 decoder installed. Follow Leak's instructions to adjust ffdshow settings.

Actually I've already done as what Leak told when I first asked in this thread. ffdshow configuration->codecs->MPEG2->DVD decoding, right? What make me puzzled is it won't work even I configured ffdshow right.

Other soft players that I've tried, like mpc-hc. The playback quality is not good at all with grayed hardware acceleration level option.

Though I'm not very familiar with video/audio stuff, which make me look like newbie here. The truth is I'm not and I know how to install and set a software at least. That's why I asked here and expect some really good advises.

Actually I have no trouble with playback of videos before I have to upgrade my pc to 2008 (formerly It's win2003).
