DVD ripping slowing WAYYY down

I realized that when I was backing up disks with my Pioneer DVD-ROM DVD-116 that things were slowing down to a crawl.

I checked and noticed that instead of DMA 5 it was in PIO mode, even though DMA if available was selected. I've tried updating the firmware (it was current), reinstalling the drive, and updating the drivers for the motherboard with no luck.

Any other ideas?

Umm well time to get a new drive?! Isnt that thing vintage 2001?

Anyway, try uninstalling the controller via device manager, reboot, and let windows reinstall the controller.

Truth is, I was really big into this stuff in high school and college and have just gotten too busy to keep up with it. I'm still running an Athlon XP processor. As long as it works...
