Ok, let me first apologize for the noob-ishness of this question. I swear, I've looked and looked, and I can't figure out what to do. I'm trying to play some .mp4 files, and I can't get sound to play in any video player I've tried.

Windows Media, GOM player, nothing... video plays perfectly well, but no sound. Here's the rub: I tried using Winamp's video player as well, and while it can't display the video, *it plays the sound track from the file*. So, my computer obviously has the codecs needed for both the audio and video, but my video players aren't using the proper audio codec. Right??? How do I remedy this???

The file names indicate that they're "xvid" "lame"... I have both of those codecs - what gives?!!? If anyone can help me solve what is probably a very simple problem, I'll be very grateful. :)

Also, my apologies if this is in the wrong forum - it seemed the most appropriate. Thanks for your time!!!

Have you installed ffdshow is that waht you are using ?

For winamp here is your solution http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=155680 and http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?postid=2305866#post2305866

Have you considered using mplayer or vlc as your player most files will work with no worries.

flebber: :thanks::thanks::thanks: !!!!

No need for another player - those forum links you posted gave me enough info to figure it out. Many thanks! What I needed, apparently, was an MP4 splitter.

In case anyone having a similar problem finds this, this thread has installation instructions and sources:

I'm a happy camper. Cheers!
