When are we going to be seeing DVD-R drives?

The only thing I can find out there are the DVD-RAM drives which are still hovering around $300 and which of course can't be played in a standalone player. Whats the deal? I thoughts we'd be have some affordable recordable dvds by now!

Damn CRPA always f*cking good stuff up.

Pioneer's A03 DVD-R burner has been on the market for almost a year and Panasonic's RAMBO is another DVD-R thats been out for awhile.

Sorry I should have been more specific, when i wrote this i was in a bad mood. I'd really like to get a dvd burner but the most important thing is to be able to play movies back in a standalone unit. DVD-RAM is the cheapest but the least compatiable, DVD-R and DVD-RW were still around $350-$400 for a good model last time i checked. And the DVD+RW Philips recorders were still around $1000. I'd like to wait till the price of the Philips units drop but they're the only ones making the DVD+RW drives, (right?) so who nows when thats going to happen and now we keep hearing more about companies putting bullsh*t copy write protection on they're drives and i wonder if waiting to get one is going to be a bad idea. My price point for dvd burner is around $200-$250 so i'll probably be burning divx movies to cds for awhile longer. I just wish the techies would hurring up and hack the xbox.
