View Full Version : Nero "Not Enough Space" Can't be!

I recently tried to burn a 2 hrs 55 minutes video to a DL-DVD-9. I got all the way through transcoding only to have Nero tell me there's not enough room. WTF? It's a blank DVD+R DL

OK, if that's not bad enough, I just had it happen again trying to burn 1hr 38 minutes to a blank 4.7 DVD-R. I don't have a log for that because nero stopped responding and had to be shut down from task manager.

This is a new problem I've never encountered in all my years of using nero. I don't get it. There's plenty of room on both DVD's.

I do have a rather long log for the first incident, but I'll only post the part that shows a problem. Thanks in advance for looking at it. It's really the only part of the log that contains the word "error"

Hi!

Perhaps you can post the formats of the two problematic videos - and which NERO mode you are trying to use...

It has nothing to do with the time of the video and everything to do with the total size of the files.

In both cases I used the AVI's as input into Nero Vision for transcoding to DVD just like I have always done.

Here's the first case, the one which I provided a partial log. It's the 2hr 55 min file that wouldn't burn to a DL-DVD because nero claimed there wasn't enough space on the blank DVD-9. Here's info for the input file format:

Here's the info on the second file which refused to burn to a standard 4.7 GB DVD-R:

I hope this is what you were asking for. TKS.

Are you trying to transcode both of them as NTSC or PAL?

I ask this because you created one of the .AVIs is in PAL format and the other in NTSC "film" format - and this, in addition to having to convert the audio into either stereo PCM, .MP2, or .AC3 format, could be contributing to the sizing problems you're having...

Are you trying to transcode both of them as NTSC or PAL?

I have no idea. All I know is that I've never had this problem before, regardless of the input format. Nero simply transcodes the source so that it fits on the DVD. You simply choose DVD or DVD-9 depending on what disk you are burning to. As long as the movie is under 2 hours for DVD or 4 hours for DVD-9, it has always fit. If it's under the max duration, that's even better because then you get better quality.

I'm assuming that Nero is converting to NTSC but there's nothing that actually says that is what it is doing.

I realize that it may take some time to approve the image, but I've provided one. It shows Nero telling me that the movie will fit fine, but at the end of transcoding, nero says it won't fit on the disk.

Why are you burning from an AVI, why don't you burn from your original source material?

What makes you think that the original source material isn't AVI? If I want to take video with my webcam and put it on DVD, that would be my only choice. It records to AVI.

The different formats and one file name lead me to believe we're talking rule 6 here.

Feel free to clarify matters in PM if you wish.
