I've ripped some of my HD DVDs using eac3to to separate the video and re-encode audio stream, then use mkvmerge to put them back together. It usually doesn't take too long to do this. eac3to only takes like 20 minutes on a 14GB video stream.

I have now started ripping bluray disks and its taking much longer. It took me 85 minutes to rip the 20GB video stream from Tropic Thunder using TSmuxer, and about the same amount of time using eac3to.

Is there something drastically different about the m2ts format versus the EVO format, which makes demuxing take so much longer?
