Because it was in the wrong forum and is noobish in nature. Would you prefer it somewhere else?

Load the file in VirtualDub with fccHandler's MPEG2 Plugin. Select desired output compression and Save as AVI. Choose a bitrate high enough to achieve the quality you desire.

You might want to try a new tool from the DVDFab people called VideoFab.

I use AVIDeMux for most of my converting needs.

You got yourself in the bad books cos you were mouthing off to a mod..... its like mouthing off to a cop, it gets you no where, but in trouble fast!
For video conversion i use mencoder and h264, i can get the size down to about 50% with pretty much no loss in quality, much below that and quality starts goin down hill, it is command line, can be abit complicated to setup, it does have gui's tho.
If you want something simpler use AVIDemux as olyteddy suggested.

Not having much look with virtualdub, or avidemux, is there a program were you can select convert vob, or mpeg2 to avi? I'll have look at mencoder and h264, me just wants to press a button and it converts without to much quality loss.

I use AVIDemux all the time for MPEG2 and VOB files..... maybe you should read the manual and work out what you are doing wrong.
And what exactly does "not much luck" mean? Does it work but not give the results you want? Does it not work at all?
If you just want to press a button to encode dont even think about mencoder!

dat720, I have no time to read manuals thats why I asked here for a quick solution. If someone knows of a guide I could follow with the conversion I would be greatful.

Do you have time to read the forum rules? The very first one says to read up before asking. If you can't even be bothered to read manuals, why would you think anyone would want to be bothered to help you?

Closing thread as it has become non-productive.
