View Full Version : Set subtitle on by default in BD structure?

I've asked about this in the existing BDEdit thread but the discussion seems pretty slow so I think a new thread is warranted.

I've started re-encoding BluRays so they will fit on a DVD9 and then using TSMuxer to save as BluRay structure. For films like Iron Man, there is an English subs track that translates the occasional spots of foreign dialogue. Is there a way to enable this sub track by default so that I don't have to remember to enable the sub stream when I start the film?

Thanks.

Further to this, I found that when I re-encoded Hunt For Red October, remuxing the original .SUP into my BluRay structure, the subs were forced for me - great stuff. Now I'm just confused as to why Iron Man didn't do the same, I have to enable the English subs track to see those. Hmmm.

Hi everybody !

First time on Doom9 ! Good to be here !!!

Well, I am also very interested in forcing subtitles on by default. Maybe i managed to take a first step in the right direction.
Here's what I did :

1/ Used tsmuxer to build blu ray content with 1 H264 video stream; 2 AC3 Audio streams, 3 SRT Subtitle streams
2/ Used BDEdit to patch the blu ray content following the instructions from this post (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1121548#post1121548).

The result works fine with my software blu ray player (ArcSoft) pointing on the blu bay content on my filesystem. With the appropriate patching, I can choose what Audio and Subtilte streams I want ON by default.

As I don't have a Blu Ray burner, I burned the blu ray content on DVD-R to play on my standalone Panasonic DMP-BD35. Although the unpatched blu ray content works fine on my standalone player, the patched version is rejected.

In my opinion, there might be at least 2 reasons why it doesn't work :

- maybe my patching is not so good (and the software player isn't too picky about it...)
- maybe my standalone player doesn't like this specific blu ray content on DVD although it might work fine on a BD... a firmware update might do the trick...

For those interested, a quick "how to" on this post (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1224580#post1224580).
