USB Blu-Ray drive

I want to get a Blu-Ray drive and I saw the following LiteOn (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3882112&Sku=L12-1158) drive. It's primary purpose would be to backup my future Blu-Ray collection. Would you recommend this drive? I want to get USB because I would rather not open up my computer.

You could get an internal drive and put it in a 5.25" external caddy. But that's a good price for a BD reader. :)

Thanks for the reply. I wasn't clear in my original post but I want to make sure I will be able to rip Blu-Ray disks with this USB drive? Would programs like AnyDVD work with USB or does it have to be PATA/SATA drive?

Also, what is the software of choice to rip Blu-Ray disks. I am new to Blu-Ray so pardon my ignorance.

If the drive can read the disc then there is no reason why it can't rip it.

AnyDVD shouldn't care how the disc is connected to the PC, as long as it appears as a standard optical drive in the device manager it will work.

Maybe you should look at spending a little extra money on something like this: LG GGC-H20L BR/HD Combo (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827136133), imo it is better value for money, as it can read both HD formats and it can burn CD/DVDs.

May not be as easy to conenct to your PC but it is certainly better.

I did get a Liteon BR drive and it works great.. Great price and does the job. anyDVD works with no problems!

I finally bought the LiteOn USB BD reader. It seems solidly built and I used it to extract my first Blu-Ray movie (The Godfather). Transfer was between 7 and 9 MB/s. Software used was a trial version of AnyDVD HD.

Now I need to figure out the best way to compress with x.264 into MKV. Any suggestions appreciated. I am used to using MeGui for regular DVD's. I was becoming a expert at converting regular DVD but now I need to learn converting BD.

You can continue to use MeGUI, look at the link in my Sig for the method i use.
