Hi Guys,

I am using xbmc for windows. I have a old 5.1 channel surround sound receiver. Which is about 10 years old. I believe it supports 2 channel PCM. and 5.1 channel dolby digital. Not DTS, AAC or any of the other latest sound formats.

I have got a 5.1 channel AAC movie encoded at 160kb/s and I want to do real time encoding into AC3 dolby digital 5.1 surround sound. Is it possible to do this in XBMC without xbmc actually supporting it?

I imagine it's possible as all sound goes through the sound card before it is picked up by the speakers. So is it possible to install ac3filter onto the PC and then using some program point the xbmc directory to take all sound and encode it through ac3filter before it goes through the sound card to the amp?

I wonder if this is possible or if I am getting my wires crossed. I am no techy sort of guy. If this is not possible, is there anyone here with programming knowledge that could get it working with xbmc?

I and many others would like to get not only our 5.1 AAC movies encoded in real time to DD 5.1 but also our DTS movies to DD 5.1 If anyone could help out it would really help the community.

All help much appreciated on this

Many thanks in advance

yes it is.

You can use AC3 Filter in the decoding chain.

I pers use my Creative X-fi Titanium to output any Audio to Dolby Digital live or DTS Connect via SPDIF(including EAX7,D3DSound)

All players than use DirectShow filters to play the audio can do this.

You can use AC3 Filter or ffdshow to output Ac3 via SPDIF.
