How can I do... anything... with these DV files?

I shot some footage on a camera borrowed from my school, and then hooked it up to their mac and captured it through iMovie. I burned the raw files to a dvd disc hoping to be able to take them home and edit them. Problem is, I can't get hardly anything to actually recognize the files.

The files themselves have a .dv extension, rather than avi. FFDshow wont play them, and mediainfo doesn't recognize them. I was able to open them up in Adobe After Effects, but my old copy of Premiere (6.0) doesn't support them.

I would really like to just be able to open them in avisynth or something. I suppose I could convert them to a lossless codec through After Effects, but it seems like a hassle to go about it that way. If it matters, I think it was a Canon ZR800 MiniDV Camcorder.

FFMpegSource opens dv files from a mac for me.

It would be nice to open them using Cedocida, but I couldn't find a free dv to avi program. Most of the programs out there are talking about dv to divx not a container switch, .dv to .avi. If you do find one, please post a link to it.

After selecting the input file and before specifying the output, open the main configuration settings window and check the Disable Navigation/Seeking box.

You only need to do this once per session.

PS: when the software is installed, any DirectShow-based application should be able to open raw DV files. People have reported varying levels of success with this depending on the application. Windows Media Player will play them properly (this may depend on the version).
