I'm mainly enconding music dvds (music video clips). I use megui. Almost all my dvds are:
0xE0 - Video - MPEG-2 / 720x576 (PAL) / 4:3 /
Before the 3008 build i was doing the following:
1. after i rip one by one the music video clips from the DVD with decrypter
2. Will make a d2v file (tools-->d2v creator)
3. then tools-->aviSynth script creator and load the d2v. On the first page i will do autocrop and tick suggest resolution and on the next page i will only press analyze. Then i will save the avs and proceed with encoding auido and video and then mux them together.
Some of the video clips will have full screen 4:3, some others will have black bars top and bottom that i would crop.
Always the horizontal resolution will default at 640 and the vertical would be adjusted according to how much crop i was doing mainly top and bottom.
I had never used clever anamorphic.
all was well and i thought i knew what i was doing so i encoded 30-40 dvd with individual video clips until the latest version.
The latest version is defaulting at 720 and when i crop top and bottom is adjusting the vertical resolution, so when i encoded a video clip with the latest megui version the resolution is 720 and the playback window was obviously larger than the 640. This is when i started thinking that i'm doing something wrong...:)
Then i started reading about resolutions, PAR, anamorphic etc and honestly i was lost.
But my two questions are:
1. Why was megui defaulting at 640 and should i had changed anything? more importantly is it correct now that is defaulting at 720?
2. How do i know if a video clip is anamorphic or not? On the megui guide (http://http://mewiki.project357.com/wiki/MeGUI/Basic_DVD_Ripping_Guide/Video) it says: If "Input DAR" ratio is a different ratio to the aspect ratio of the preview window, it means the DVD is anamorphic..
However although i can see the input ratio i cannot see the preview window AR.
