Vbr ac3??

I've never tried it. I know most (everything?) commercially released is CBR, but are there improvements with using VBR?

I can't imagine VBR allows one to overcome the inherent limitations of Dolby Digital at low bitrates. For example, low-pass filtering to ~15KHz IIRC when you do 5.1ch at 384kbps.

If you lose the compatibility you lose the best point for use ac3. And AC3 VBR isn't compatible with many containers.

Is better use AAC than AC3 VBR.
