I'm new to DVD/avi conversion and have recently started experimenting with DVDx. I'm trying to decode DVD files to avi’s using the DivX 6.8.5 codec but when I play the avi files that are produced I get a blank screen. The audio crystal clear. I’ve tried not to mess around with many of the default settings but I can provide screen shots if it’ll help. Any help would be welcomed.

I would try a different package, AVIDemux can convert Vob/ISO to AVI.
You could use your prefered Decrypting (DVDShrink is good for this) program to create a ISO with only the main video/audio track.
Then open the ISO in AVIDemux, and set it up to suit your needs and save the video.

You need to have a proper encoder installed in order to play the resulting file. I recommend FFDShow. Install it, enable divx decoding, and you should be fine.

Hmmm thats a good point, but if he is using Windows Media Player to playback the files it should complain about missing codecs.
stuft, what player do you use?
