any other way? that program requires itunes to be installed. would rather not install that crap

No, it says it integrates with iTunes. It doesn't require iTunes.

It also integrates with iTunes using my iGain GUI.

well, i installed the program, started the program, and i get a message that says itunes 4.x or higher required. only choice is to press OK, after that program closes.

Sounds like you installed the iGain GUI, not aacgain (http://www.rarewares.org/aac-encoders.php#aacgain) which is a command-line tool.

it is a cmd tool,

aacgain /r /k file.mp4

seems to do the so called track gain analysis and changes the gain accordingly (i suggest you use that).
