View Full Version : Problem backing up Get Smart

I purchased a new copy of Get Smart yesterday, but I am having a problem backing it up. I used RipIt4Me, imported the PSL files and all went fine until the clean up, at which time there was a message that there were some files that did not seem to be copy-protected but that could not be used. This is supposedly caused by a dirty disc and I should try cleaning the disc.

Well, cleaning the disc doesn't work. We have watched the disc without any problem, so I was wondering if this was some kind of glitch in the software or if there is something in the files that is placed there to defeat DVD Decrypter?

Thanks
Ken K

Hi!

Try using DVDFabHDDecrypter instead of RipIt4Me...

Hi!

Try using DVDFabHDDecrypter instead of RipIt4Me...

There are structure related issues with this disc that cause problems for various ripping programs.

DVDFabHDDecrypter currently has difficulties with this disc but I'd imagine it won't be too long before Fengtao issues an update.

@WomblerDVDFabHDDecrypter currently has difficulties with this discDVDFabHDDecrypter v.4.120 (released back in April) had absolutely no problem ripping the R1 version of this DVD.

Additionally, v.3.9.162 of DVD95Copy Pro also went through this DVD like a hot knife through butter.

BTW - As always, I recommend holding down the "Shift" key while loading the DVD until the title appears in the Explorer window - even if you've turned off your system's "Autoplay" feature.

DVDFab 5 will rip this title without indicating problems, but when you attempt to play it in the "Smart takes-alternate scenes" mode it will skip blocks. I had to be happy with the original version backup, which plays fine.

@ojdidit

Both of my previously described rips playback with "Smart-takes" without any glitches. What you've described is usually a player-related shortcoming, first seen on the original "Matrix" DVD with its "White Rabbit".

Some such DVDs provide a warning about the possibility of exactly the display problem you've described - "Ray" is one that comes to mind...

@set-a-rip-old

I got this result on my software player, Roxio DVDmax Player. I always check functionality with it before burning. That said, i can't explain your lack of problems.

An update/correction to my previous post(s):

When checking the two different rips regarding the "Smart-takes", I must have inadvertently played the DVD95Copy Pro version both times. Now that I've (shamefacedly) carefully re-checked, I've determined that while the DVD95Copy Pro version does indeed play all aspects properly, the DVDFab HD Decrypter does not play the "Smart-takes" properly (As previously noted, it does play the "standard" movie properly) - because it, for some reason determined that the "VTS_02_1.VOB (that contains all of the "Smart-takes") could be shrunk to 46Mgs, as opposed to the 500+Mgs produced by the DVD95Copy Pro version...

Sorry if I've misled anybody about DVDFab HD Decrypter.

On the other hand, it was nice to see that my personal favorite payware one-click solution was capable of handling this DVD properly...

As indicated earlier it's because of the way this particular disc is structured.

Specifically the way alternate segments are interleaved with the normal film which confuses certain ripping programs.

I haven't got this disc myself so I'm relying on the reports of others but it's clear that this DVD is causing difficulties for many users.

And just so there's no confusion - DVD95Copy Pro (Payware) makes a perfect rip of this DVD...

Over the weekend I downloaded the DVDFabDecrypter trial version and it made a copy without hiccuping. Not only did it not hiccup, but it seemed to do it quite rapidly. I was very impressed and purchased the Platinum program.

the alternate scene option makes the movie unbearable, they should have just added a special features menu option.

Hi!

Try using DVDFabHDDecrypter instead of RipIt4Me...

I just ripped this movie with the latest DVDFabHDDecrypter. The .vob plays fine, but after re-encoding to x264 the audio was unsynced, and the time offset seems to vary throughout the movie. I tried both MeGUI and FFmpeg, neither worked.

Same thing here. Any solution??

Try AutoMen 5.1 (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1018336) (I think that's the one I used that finally worked.)
