HDV + DV clips in one project

During my last trip to Spain we shot some video using 2 different cameras; a standard DV Canon XM-1 and HDV Canon XH A1.
Now I want to create a HD project using clips from both cameras. Is it possible to upscale the DV content to HDV before editing? Obviously not for quality reasons, but to get all clips in the same format. I could crop and resize to 16:9 but that way I'd lose a part of the recording. Is there another way?
What application can handle a mixed contend HD project?

Is it possible to upscale the DV content to HDV before editing? Yes, of course. Simply resize it using an Avisynth script, for example.
