Using Smartripper
Ripped in file Mode removed unwanted sound streams
the file size is 3.81gb (Jeepers Creepers)Region 1
I also ripped the IFO File into a folder named VIDEO_TS
I use IFOedit to presumably correct the vob files.
can you tell me why it wont auto run with windvd, and if I burn to disc, it still wont play????? on a set top player.
so basically what I need to know is,
How do I keep the Movie and Dolby Digital track, and get it to play with out remuxing it??????
cos the file is under 4GB when the unwanted sound streams are removed.
I seem to have lost the plot somewhere

Rip the VOBS for the version of the film you want (wide or p&s). I don't have the disc to look at but I think the main movie for P&S was
VTS_02_0.IFO
VTS_02_1.VOB
VTS_02_2.VOB
VTS_02_3.VOB
VTS_02_4.VOB
and Widescreen was
VTS_08_0.IFO
VTS_08_1.VOB
VTS_08_2.VOB
VTS_08_3.VOB
VTS_08_4.VOB
You only want to copy one of the sets of files listed above (depending on which version of the movie you want). Put them in a VIDEO_TS (must be all caps) folder. Open IFOEdit, open VTS_02_0.IFO (or VTS_08_0.IFO). Click on "VOB Extras" ONLY select "Correct Vob-Unit (Navigation Pack) pointers", "Correct IFO tables with new Vob-Unit information", "Create new VIDEO_TS.IFO & VTS_01_0.IFO", "Remove P-UOps", "Remove Macrovision", "Adjust Vob-Unit pointers", and "Adjust Vob Audio/Subp point", Click ok.
This will now create the files VIDEO_TS.IFO and VTS_01_0.IFO. Now you need to rename your movies files from VTS_02_1.VOB (or VTS_08_1.VOB) to VTS_01_1.VOB and so on for all 4 files. Once you are done your dvd file structure should look like
VIDEO_TS.IFO
VTS_01_0.IFO
VTS_01_1.VOB
VTS_01_2.VOB
VTS_01_3.VOB
VTS_01_4.VOB
You should not need to strip anything from these. This will give you a movie only copy of this. Do not forget to Select "Get VTS Sectors" (for all IFO files if you are using an older version of IFOEdit than .8b). Now burn this to a DVD-RW and test it.

Thanks For the reply
I am still having problems, I followed your instructions, the renaming of the vobs, is where I must of been going wrong.
however, I started from scratch, and made a new folder
VIDEO_TS ripped the vobs as you said
VTS_02_0.IFO
VTS_02_1.VOB
VTS_02_2.VOB
VTS_02_3.VOB
VTS_02_4.VOB
opened up IFO EDIT 0.81
opened VTS_02_0.IFO
did the vob extra,s
renamed the Vobs
now have a folder with the following in it
VIDEO_TS.IFO
VTS_01_0.IFO
VTS_01_1.VOB
VTS_01_2.VOB
VTS_01_3.VOB
VTS_01_4.VOB
VIDEO_TS.BUP
VTS_01_0.BUP
Now the Problem
If I set WinDVD as the default drive, the above VIDEO_TS plays back great.
burn it to a disc, and it wont play at all in either my PC or my set top Pioneer 444
If I right click the properties on the burned disc, it shows the above file, and will play in windvd if I drag and drop the vobs in, but in chapter 3, the audio is the directors commentary.????
thanks.
just a point, in your instruction you say
"Remove Macrovision", and "Adjust Vob Audio/Subp point", Click ok.
well I must be a bit thick, but where in IFOedit are those options.

I am using IFOEdit beta .82b2 available here (you have to scroll down a few posts before you find it)

What software are you using to burn the dvd with? Also PowerDVD 4.0 XP works better for playing dvd files from your hard drive. RecordNow Max and Prassi Primo DVD seem to work best. I would send you my IFO files but I ripped the widescreen version of the movie.
This link is more detailed on Creating a DVD of just the main movie:
http://mpucoder.kewlhair.com/Derrow/create.html
I have never had success with VOB Instant CD or with Nero but I havn't had a problem with Prassi or RecordNow Max.

Just Done the same as per your Instruction with American Pie 2
it plays back great from the hard drive, soon as I burn it to disc,
PC wont play the disc, nor will my set top
it seems to be searching all the time, and I use Prassi, and have also used Nero on both, and still get the same result
discs that wont play,
tried it on Datasafe discs, the cheap £1.99 discs, and on 2 different DVD-RW Discs, and one Pioneer disc.
I am sure its not the Pioneer or windvd that is at fault, cos I have been doing SVCD'S For a couple of years now, without a hitch.
And I also dont think its the discs that are wrong, because, if I use the
smartripper
DVD2AVI
tmpgenc
burn with prassi or nero, they playback without fault,
but I have not yet managed one successful disc with the ifo-edit method, your help have at least got it playing back from the hard drive, with the correct sound, but as i say, soon as it burns to disc, it all goes pear shaped.
4 coasters upto now, and not one success.

Do the discs play on your pc?
Buttkicker

The VIDEO_TS folder autoruns playing from the hard drive and plays correctly, in windvd
after the same folder is burned in Prassi or nero, it does not autorun, in either my PC or Set top.
however in windvd if I manually open the vobs and add them one by one, it does play on the pc, but its a non starter on the set top
got me completly beat, I seem to have read all the various forums etc.
but still cannot get the ifoedit method to work.
thanks for the links, but the links are empty?

They work fine for me but try cutting and pasting the URLs into your browswer.

also make sure that your VIDEO_TS folder is in all caps, you can also try creating an AUDIO_TS folder also in all caps

Tried that already
I am at a complete Loss as to whats going on.
after spending nearly all night messing about, with 3 different films, and different software,
the only software that actually will get a working copy of anything, is Ulead Movie Factory, after going thru the
Rip to H/Drive
DVD2AVI
Tmpg
Ulead Movie Factory.
Prassi wont burn a copy that will run at all in anything,(via autorun)
downloaded a trial of spruceup, and it Lets me go thru the motions of menu--buttons--simulate
then as soon as it gets to write disc, the damned thing tells me wrong format NTSC/Pal and it does says that for every file I use weather its NTSC or Pal???????????
With Prassi it will not Autorun at all in either PC or Set top.
yet the very same file autoruns from hard drive playback.
if I actually search for the Prassi burned files (on the disc)
it will play back on pc. but does not want to entertain set top play back.
so in 2 weeks since I got a dvd burner, the only successful disc written with Prassi was (Soldier) which ripped the entire disc to hard drive and wrote back to dvdr.
not even a squeak with any of the other movies.
getting back to Ulead Movie Factory
I have Re-encode about 5 films. 3 work perfect, and for some reason 2 of them wont start at the beginning, they seem to get stuck??
but if i move to the next chapter, then scan back, the stupid thing plays.

A Small update
Just managed to burn Jeeper Creepers using Nero.
and it will play back in the Pioneer AO3,
But the same disc wont play in the same PC,s Toshiba dv rom drive, or in my other PC,s Afreey dv rom, it also refuses, in my set top Pioneer.
so how the Hell do all the above roms read the same type of discs, when written with Ulead Movie Factory.
and Prassi and nero files are not recognised,
just for the record, the discs are
2 re-writable Princo,s
12 of the unbranded ones costing £1.99 each
6 Pioneer discs
2 Memorex
using Ulead all play back in every type of dvrom or player
using Prassi or Nero playback with nothing apart from todays jeepers creepers written to the Princo dvd-rw

Make sure that you do not have any sub-directories under VIDEO_TS.
Buttkicker
21st January 2002, 19:39
What do you mean sub directories under Video_ts
ttyboy

When you are ready to burn your VIDEO_TS directory, make sure you did not add any sub directories in it.

Are you SURE that after you get vob extras and that you LOOK in your Temp file that has the NEW video_ts and vts that its there the delete everything in the original ripped file and copy the NEW 4 files from your temp directory to your movie directory then get vts sectors starting with vts_01 then video_ts and saving each and saving as a backup ?? this may be the problem. Ive done 40 double discs and only a few were bad because i goofed on the procedure. Hope this helps. Check Derrows Guides or look for Chumboy, who helped me alot along the way. good luck.:)

Forgot 1 thing, if using the procedures above i rip in the MOVIE mode. NOT the file or backup mode. Check that smartripper has the original defaults in it as when first downloaded. I made a mistake when i first used it for dvd as i was using it for vcd and had changed a few boxes. Hope this helps out.:)
