Just done my first ever dvd rip using dvd2svcd but loads of problems!

I will try to keep this short.

Okay used 1.8 ghz pentium, 2 hour film onto 2 80min disks took about 15 hours but qoulity is awesome compared to vcds ive seen done on tmpenc, is this time about right I used settings suggested in help files.

I selected the size of disk as 790 meg which the help file said was 80 min disk but I could not get any software to burn apart from fireburner as they said image too large.
Fireburner gave an error but disks worked on dansai dvd play (not mine) so I deleted the stuff off pc as it was not mine I used.
The pc was new and not mine so I did not know what caused the errors but now im sure its excessive overburn as errors are at 92 and 96 percent of disks.

Anyway got the disks home and tried to copy them to cdrw as my dvd player only plays either 24x media or cdrw.
Clone cd etc crashed but diskjuggler gave errors replacing them with dummy files which took about 6 hours to do 2 mins of disk so I gave up ending up saving the log which would not continue next day just kept starting at start of disk.

Isobuster looks successfull though I cannot extract the bin file but I can extract all directories except track 2 which according to isobuster contains nothing!!.
HOW DO I BURN THESE FILES TO DISK AND WITH WHAT SETTING.

Nero says it can do svcd in help file therefore i could use just the .mpg I have but there is no option for it only vcd in options!! DO I NEED THE MPEG2 PLUGING.

Finally I am not yet sure if my dvd player is svcd compatible or 90 min cdr compatible which I will use for the image as 80 min is too small and I cannot get svcd to run from disks or .mpg copied to hard disk on my pc.
WHAT SOFTWARE DO I NEED TO WATCH SVCD ON PC RUNNING WIN 98 AND NO DVD PLAYER.

not being able to overburn could be a limitation of your cd-burner. HP perhaps?

extract the bin file? why?

Use the lastest nero 5.5.6.4 and choose the .cue file to burn.

WinDVD or PowerDVD to watch on your PC.

Sounds like one of two things happened.

1. You are using an old build with the cd size bug
2. You used 1 pass VBR or CBR encoding.

If you did 1 download the latest version 1.06 build 1 and try again.


If 2 then you need to adjust bitrates manually, but I don't think this is the case because it took so long.

The bad news is that with the files gone there is not much you can do. You need to make the .cue files smaller and burn again.
A good .cue file is 806mb or less for 80 minute CDR disks without overburning.

I use WinDVD on my computer and have no problems viewing SVCD's.

Unless you are sure your DVD player works with your CD-R burner and discs burned at such a high speed I recomend slowing the burn down to 4X. You may want to make 1 disc at the fastest the burner will burn and the rest at 4X and test the discs. Many people have problems with discs burned at high speeds on their Stand Alone player.

I make Bin files around 811mb, 816mb that burn with out overburn on a 80minute cd that works everytime so not sure if 806 is for some burners but for sure is not the standard.

806mb Cue files are the standard.
If you read the time in CDRWIN and maybe other CD-R software programs the 806mb is 79:56:???.
So basically just shy of 80 minutes.
If you go even 1mb more you end up over 80 minutes.
80 minutes is the standard and in the case of DVD2SVCD this happens to be 806mb.
You are not recording 80 minutes, but equal to 80 minutes of data in the video standard.

Well strange i use Dvd2svcd the images were over the 806 and they burned but oh well. I just see the "806" and was like mine worked over that size tho not by much:) either way kewl beans i overburn now with my liteone so this dosent affect me just wondering if someone else also had more then 806 fit on a disk without overburning.

Most of the time the listed figure on a disk is actual not what you get. Sometimes less sometimes more. I have never actually tested CD-R disks to see what the actual is.

Although I have attempted to burn CD-R disks of about 810mb when DVD2SVCD had the bug and never could. My CD-R player at the time did not support overburning.

I am guessing that your CD-R burns are overburning a little without you knowing it.
It is also possible that the SVCD you make and I make are completely different. For instance I do not use subtitles and I do not use multiple audio streams. I use VXCDbuild fixed chapters and not DVD chapters. Etc... This may throw off the balance of minutes to megabytes.

I am not completely up on CUE files, but I suspect at least part of the file is information data and data that isn't actually burned. This things may throw off the size to minutes and make comparing almost useless.

I suspect, without being completely sure, that it is a combo of things that lets you burn larger files then I can on standard discs.

All these are just slightly educated guesses, I hope someone with more knowledge on the CUE file contents and buring potential would chime in.

I know having discs larger then 806mb was considered by DVD2SVCD to be a bug. The 1.05 builds calculated the disc size wrong and created 808 - 811mb files and many people had problems.

True from the looks of things I do my Svcds different so hey that
might be one big factor. Also different burners maybe mine was overburning a hair,and if so thats kewl got a little extra LOL...
So sorry if i confused ..i was confused when i seen "806" myself but understand after this conversation thats the standard ....

Markrb I do not have a cue or image of any sort isobuster only allowed me to extract all files apart from track 2.
I have a 90 min disk so I could fit the files onto this.
I have the following folders.
ext
extra
mpeg2
segment
svcd.

The only thing that would not extract was track 2 which isobuster said contained nothing which I gues is where the errors are.
The disk did work on standalone dvd player just not mine therefore i am trying to put them onto disks that are compatible.
The main problem is how do I burn these files to disk I do not know what setting to use.

Nero can burn a .mpg in mpeg2 format according to the help file but there is no option for svcd where it says it will be but it does mention a mpeg2 plugin so maybe I need the plugin to get the option then I can the the .mpg and let nero sort the rest out.

I am sure my dvd2svcd is build 1.06 and I selected disk size as 790 in options, I did not subtitles or extra sound languages BUT WHEN I STARTED RIPPING IT INFORMED ME MY BITRATE WAS WRONG AND WOULD I LIKE TO USE DEFAULT SO I SAID YES!!.

I have a question maybe that can help me understand why your image hasent been made

In dvd2svcd under the CD Image tab which selection is selected?

1.Don't make images
2.Vcdxbuild
3.VcdImager

Now with nero which version are you using. If its not version 5.5.6.4 then go get that. If it is then here is how you burn your Mpeg file with nero

Close the wizard and it will bring up a menu "New Compilation"
then scroll down on the left there until you see "Super Video Cd"
Leave everything alone except a few things i'll name them here
1.the Encoding resolution can be either PAL or NTSC so change 2 what you have

2.Make sure disk at once is selected under the Burn tab then hit New

3.Find the Mpeg files in the folder that nero brings up and drag them from the file browser over 2 the "SuperVideo1" window

4.Nero sometimes complains that your video is not compliant but just cilck on the button that states"Ignore and Continue"

Burn Cue Files with Nero

Go get Deamon TOols, after you load the cue file with deamon tools open Nero then Select Copy Cd in the Wizard TAB, then select the drive that the Cue is loaded and thats it works well

I prefer Fantomcd because it is nero and deamon tools in one, BUT its not free like Deamon Tools.

Ah yes see my nero is 5.5.3.5 but it says I can burn svcd but in compilation comes up with vcd only so I will get the newer one.

Sorry dvd2svcd does make an image the problem is they where too big for the disk and caused errors.
I therefore cannot copy these disks to cdrw to watch on my dvd player due to the errors but isobuster extracted the files mentioned above in my post.
I have the .mpg so I guess all I need is the new nero to burn it to disk.

I managed to open the mpeg2 on my pc using cinematograph but I an only getting sound and no picture!!
ANY IDEAS ANYONE!!!.

In Nero 5.5.5.6
Close the Wizard or close the create compilation box.
click "File"
click "burn image"
select the folder where the image(Cue) is stored then select & go.
you dont need Deamon Tools :confused:

The reason i told him 2 load up Deamon TOols 2 load those Cue Files, is that worked 100% for me as Nero started not reading all my cue files.

Now I was going through my network from the 1 computer over 2 my burner/Nero on the second computer but it would say Invalid File.

If i loaded the same "cue file" up with deamon tools or fantom cd over the network it would load the Cue files.

If I ran Nero on the same computer that the cue file were created then it would load.

So i'm gathering Nero is still buggy in the CUE department.

I just finished burning my 10th movie this week using nero for Cues & no problems.

If you move the bin/cue to another folder, you have to correct the path in the cue, because otherwise is is looking for your bin at the wrong path.
Just open the .cue with e.g. notepad and delete the path in the first line, just leave the filename. So it alway look for the bin in the same directory as the cue is.

Ok done trying the path change and still has the same error as before invalid file so what i did was copied the file over the network instead of just loading the cue file from the network i copied the Patriot cue/bin over 2 e:\test
then edited the cue file and changed the path loaded it up and it still errored oh well i'm sticking with Fantom Cd.

Just to point this out. Many people have problems with Nero with DVD2SVCD, some do not. I personally like using CDRWIN and mrbass has pointed me towards vcdeasy.
Both of these work well for me, much better then Nero.
You can find links to both and guides in the Newbie Guide.
I have never worked with 90 minutes CD-R discs so can't help you there.
I have also never tried to copy or rip a SVCD.

Sorry guys I dont have an image so this cue business does not help me.
I cannot make an image as my disks have read errors at the end and I can only extract files such as .mpg.
I am going to get nero and burn the mpg using nero.

that probably wont be a problem. nero will handle it.
it just won't have any chapters or subs if you included them..

if your drive supports it, burn with DAO at 4X or less to be sure of a good copy.

I got win dvd today and it lets me play svcd on pc.

I will get nero which should sort my other problems out.
