according to the gpac dev:
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=571741&aid=2069646&group_id=84101

AC3 support is now available on CVS.

MP4Box
* Enhanced AC3 is NOT supported
* AC3 mux/demux from RAW AC3 only
* RTP hinting is not done yet

CLients
* playback should be supported through ffmpeg (not tested yet)

Does anyone have a windows binary build yet?

I've made a workaround because the cvs build doesn't work properly for me (patch included in my package)...files play fine with VLC.

Command line as usual:
MP4Box -add input.ac3 output.mp4

forgot to mention that it plays fine also (audio streams only) with mpc using its own mp4 splitter...;)

mp4splitter of gabest has been updated 2 years ago last time and still handels ac3-in-mp4?Yes... but sadly it only works when playing "audio only" AC3 in .MP4 files!

It would be great if it could be updated to the revised spec...

In audio only mode the splitter just scans for sync words and doesn't really know what it is doing. This however is sufficient to extract ac3 frames from the stream.

I have tried to run the new mp4box compiled by kurtnoise13 but at the command prompt I only get an error:

"the system cannot execute the specified program"

My system is Windows XP SP2, a P4 3.2ghz (cedar mill core). My GPAC install MP4Box from 2007 has always run.

I had extracted the files from the kurtnoise13 download into their own folder and tried to run from the command prompt.
Please help because I would like to try out the updated mp4box - thanks!

Is it better when you install this (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=9B2DA534-3E03-4391-8A4D-074B9F2BC1BF&displaylang=en) ?

Thanks, - yes, it is! :D

When I type mp4box now it gives me the help prompt options, I'm going to try re-muxing my mp4's now, thanks Kurtnoise13.

as soon as there is a way to play back those files with any dshow players, then yes probably...;)

I'm trying to patch the gabest splitter (& Bento4 because it uses its code).

I have been looking for technical details on this for quite a while ... how does MP4Box concatenate two files together in terms of the audio stream (AC3 or AAC)? I ask because usually the audio in each mp4 file can be slightly shorter than the video (milliseconds, but shorter just the same). When it concatenates the audio, does it pad the end of the audio in each stream to ensure that subsequent concatenated streams are in sync with their own video? Hope that makes sense ... if not let me know.

are you able to play back this ac3 stream with a decent player ?

if yes, it's maybe a path issue...

and applying this patch (http://pastebin.com/f7e2753d) can help.
