Don't know if this is the right place to post so please feel free to move it if it's not.

I'll start from the begining. I've encoded a movie but the file size is greater than dv9 and since I don't want to make a backup using blu-ray discs I split the large file using mkvmerge.

I then merge the 2 files to get one large file again to test it.

Here's the problem, the point where the two files are joined plays back with a slight stutter. Is this normal? Is there any way to get around this problem if it is normal? Thanks in advance.

Hi!

1) You have your initial (unsplit) rip

2) You have your split, 2 file version

3) What's the purpose or benefit of re-joining the 2 split files (You already have an unsplit version)?

Instead of trying to join the files I would link them when muxing. Then when you play them back, as long as they are in the same directory, they will play as one seamless file.

I'm assuming that he wants to put the movie on disks to free up space on his hard drive or something like that. So he actually may no longer have an unsplit version.

1) i have the original on my htpc

2) the split version is on dv9 as a backup of the original rip

3) the purpose is: if my htpc hdd fails i can just copy the transcoded files back to my new hdd instead of having to re-transcode. 10 minute copy vs 20+ hour transcode.

so i take it that the stutter at the join portion of the file is normal?

Try using the simple little program "HJSplit" to both split and rejoin...
